Lovely to see many viewing this thread as if we have snow report.  Now cooling down to 30C here and some clouds around so it over now.

The showers that are falling are pathetic as well. Total nuisance value. Literally

I reckon it would be similar to what Leeds Weather Centre would have recorded had it still been operational.  Some might say that was artificially high but it was an official station. Difference between Leeds Bradford Airport  (210m) and Leeds Weather Centre used to be 2-4c, depending on the conditions, I would say 3c difference on a day like today. LBA reached 32c today.

At least 34.3c at Ryhill and 34.8c at Linton on ooze (hourly readings) which are rural.   So 35c has to be plausible, Leeds WC would normally outperform other local official stations.

Rostherne and Manchester Airport for example are not fully representative of here.

Anyway - Manchester Airport is back down to 32C so I think we've peaked. Would have loved to have guaranteed a 34c report.

If Linton on Ouse reached 35C then no reason why the centre of Leeds didn’t too. I think it’s accurate and is what was forecast.

Also, reliable amateur stations in suburban Leeds have reached close to 35C.

Its a right shame we don't have a more extensive reporting network. To be fare though, the cloud in the end did cover alot of the SE

According to this report by Sean Batty who is the main person at STV (which is the Scottish equivalent of ITV) Weather, Edinburgh has had its hottest day on record today with a temperature of 31.2°C, so it turns out that Edinburgh Gogarbank wasn't even the hottest station here in Edinburgh today.

That beat the previous record of 30.0°C which was set at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh back in 1975.

Getting weather data is hard work. The Met Office website should have far more information available.

Did there used to be a Manchester weather centre ?

EDIT the best I can do is:  try Weatheronline and the history section , records for Manchester go way back, but you have to read off the graph.  I assume August 3rd 1990 was the highest temp at Manchester Airport at 34.x

I guess the only hope left is the 18:00 reports from the MetOffice. How many stations report at the end of the day that were in the prime locations?

It could of been worse today we got 100f and over 38c but its frustrating to get so close.

37c seems to be a temperature that the UK has struggled to get to just twice before today, be interesting how many times we get over 37c in the next 10 years or so, if it becomes common then Global Warming is really starting to kick in.

I think the Manchester Airport record was 34C in August 1990. So we didn't quite make it today (I think!)
