Terrible flooding across the Calder valley. That squall like was amazing to experience but the damage from the rain not the winds most telling.

Not that bad at the moment down here along the south coast with top gusts of 56.5mph being recorded a Thorney, 58mph over at Bournemouth, and 52mph at St Catherine's point on the IOW.

Waiting for these bad winds to arrive as nothing to warrant the amber warning yet.

Just heard a loud bang and thought "shit, there goes my roof" even though the wind doesn't actually seem that strong. Turned out to be the shampoo holder coming off the tiled wall (held on by suction cups) in the bathroom. My nerves are shot to pieces, and so is mother's.

Indeed it is rather rough at this end but I've actually experienced worse in the past where I think I'm being sheltered by the hilly built up area to my SW for now. Also not at all that much in the way of rain with 0.6 mm so far. However, sadly the worse is yet to come this afternoon and possibly into this evening.

Let's get this sorry excuse of a "winter" behind us ASAP and roll onto the first proper spring-like warmth of the Spring season.

Certainly very windy here, with gusts around 28-32mph according to a local PWS on weatherunderground, but not outstandingly bad (so far!).  On xcweather Headcorn Aerodrome reports 26 to 46mph winds and Biggin Hill (more exposed on top of the North Downs) 45 to 64mph.

The radar suggests the first properly organised squall will get here soon, approaching Reading at the moment. Some red radar returns in there but nothing like the whites and purples that just went through Manchester.

No heavy rain here as yet and the strong gusts have died down. Having read this thread I looked at the rain radar and saw the squall line hasn’t reached us yet, so I think I’ll carry on ironing and leave the shopping trip for later!

Ian, Your post made me laugh but I think a repair to your shampoo holder will be cheaper than a roof repair!

So far here in Reigate, Surrey I’d say slightly calmer than forecast. I’d estimate the strongest gusts at no more than 55-60 in the lee of the hills. 10mph off what was forecast - may just be the topography coming into play. Was also stronger an hour ago than now, but still pretty wild for the next couple of hours.

My scaffolding still stands but some of the sheeting is looking a bit ragged and boy is it making a noise!

Think the squall line is just starting to arrive here. Went very dark a few minutes ago, a loud clap of thunder about 5 minutes ago and the rain is now heavy.
