It has remained resolutely dry here in the flatlands apart from an odd spot of turbocharged drizzle, though MetO automated telling me currently a 90% chance of heavy rain.

The wind is getting a bit noisy now though nothing too serious yet - just a few plant pots knocked over in the garden.

The fences at the bottom still being held up by a dense covering of ivy even though the posts rotted through at ground level years ago

Looks like I did it just in time as the gusts have really picked up in the last 10 mins.

Max gust here 53mph so far been quite a bit windier this winter especially when we have had NW winds to which I am much more exposed.
33mm rain today which is impressive.

Getting pretty stormy here now, the small wood at the back of my house making quite a racket. Not long now before the squall line proper passes through.

Squal line just making itself known here... hasnt arrived proper yet tho...

Wind is more consistent blustery than gusty, rain is sharply falling

Squall line hit here over 5 mins ago and still going strong. Some hail mixed in there.
It is the torrential rain and the poor visibility rather than the wind strength which has made this squall so entertaining though.

You wouldn't want to be out there in this.  Conditions as poor as I have seen them here.

Wow, I thought the squall line had broken up - how wrong was I. Been a wild 10 minutes of torrential side ways rain and very strong gusts. Just off to check the roof! Garden under water

These events never last long of course but when they ocurr they can be very impressive.

A very rapid temperature drop as well, around 2C in just 5 minuites. Was 10.7C at 10.40, now 8.2C and falling.

...and there goes the Sheppey Crossing. I'm glad I'm not going anywhere today, the only other way off Sheppey involves the old bridge which currently has traffic lights.

Looks like both GFS and MetO now agree that this is the beginning of a 4-hour period of peak winds; GFS has been consistently higher than MetO and so far (thankfully!) MetO has been closer to the money. The gusts here are generally in the 50s, with the odd one in the low 60s (matching MetO's 58-61 rather than GFS' 69-71).

That said, I don't like the look of the various squall lines working their way eastwards. Those will be where the highest gusts come from!

Squall line produced 11mm in 10minutes here. (Maybe more given the sideways rain). 44mm total for the storm. Our road was like a river, which isn't good for areas at the bottom of the hill.

The exposed led flashing on our extension has already lifted and the ridge tiles are starting to peel off. Not good at all and the worst is still to come.

Quite intense squall . As its been said, was more about the buckets of rain throwing down. We werent even in the worts part... northern england are under intense rainfall right now.

Wind was a bit more intense, but not much.

Well that was frightening. Wish i could post video!
Ilkley is now cut off. Wharfe has burst its banks, major flooding. I've seen images of major flooding also in the Dales and Lakes. Gust of 75mph at Leeds Bradford Airport. This is a very serious beast!

Still no rain to speak of here in the flatlands, and the odd patch of blue sky and sunshine in the last half hour- which reveals just how fast the low level cloud is moving

Darkening to the west now though as it looks like the first squall line approaching.

I can see some flash flooding being reported soon. Those hills will just throw the rainfall into the valleys

Yes it passed over here about 5 minutes ago and was very intense, my street is on a hill so it turned into a raging torrent momentarily. Probably the most impressive squall I’ve seen in the past few years.

We seem to be south of these squall lines and really heavy rain. I would say it appears to be worse further north and east. We are just experiencing heavy drizzle and a steady gale.
