Were you advised to self-isolate?
I think that would be reasonable.

At the very least the whole Covid19 episode thus far has been a fascinating pastiche on the reaction of a society to a potential pandemic - if it indeed develops into one.
From media hype to bigotry to economic kneejerking and down to censorship of the truth on a national scale.
I wonder sometimes how much of a ‘civilised’ society we’re supposed to be.

Just look at the London Riots in 2011 for example. When the plebs realised the police had lost control and they could rob and steal and be violent with impunity, they did just that

Best guess at the moment using China's declared figures is that for every 100 cases, 15 will be so serious that they will need a period in hospital if not intensive care, and 2 in 100 will likely die.
It's had to see how that can be dealt with properly if 20% get infected eventually which was the approximate figure worldwide for Swine Flu.
The infectivity seems exceptionally high which could make logistics even more difficult due to an exponential rise once it's established especially if next to no effort is made to isolate anyone who has been in a high risk situation like flying back from the Far East

I noticed you made an identical comment recently.

I’ve just returned from Singapore, which I assume you categorise as ‘Far East’: a county with around 50 cases out of 5.5 million people.  With respect that is in no way ‘high risk’.  On that logic we should be isolating Brighton.

Prior to touchdown at Heathrow there was announcement asking passengers to let cabin crew know if they had a sore throat, persistent cough, temperature or felt unwell. To be honest that seemed somewhat pointless because to say 'yes' would invite medical checks and potential isolation.  Other than that, nothing obvious at T5, which surprised me given that two flights from Singapore arrived within minutes of each other.

As I've said before, I am certain that the quality of medical care is a significant factor, both in terms of early detection and then treatment. Based on what we've seen so far I think mortality rates here will be lower than China is seeing and even within China there's a spread with Hubei province being the worst.

My whole household got a text from our GP today telling us to phone 111 if they think they've been exposed to the coronavirus, and specifically not go to hospital or a practice unless instructed. I assume after the Brighton incident it's to reduce your contact with as many people as possible.

A moment’s thought about the background to the Spanish Flu pandemic should provide you with several good reasons that it won’t be similar. Plus advances in medicine and pharmaceuticals over a century.

The only negatives are the much greater global population and greater mobility.

Just because the numbers are confusing. Here are the daily number of new cases over the last few days in Hubei. I've separated by old method/clinical

8th February: 2060

9th February: 2618

10th February: 2097

11th February: 1638

12th February: 1508/13332*

13th February: 1728/3095

*This is likely to be high because it includes accumulated cases.

13th is up on the 12th and 11th but not hugely.

Relevant to the Coronavirus saga...

When I was a nipper in the 50s many of us got mumps and we were asked to stay in quarantine at home for 2 weeks.
Later things changed and fake news about the MMR jab stopped some people getting their kids immunised. Stupido...

Mumps cases hit decade high in England

对,因为怕死 虽然这个病毒的致死率并不太高 但对胆小一族来说 要把所有的传染源都掐死在摇篮里! 疫情之下,人的胆子能有多小? 快来看看这位阿姨 哦不……看看这位圣诞树

Yes, because of fear of death Although the death rate of this virus is not too high, but for the timid family, all the sources of infection should be strangled in the cradle! How small can a person's guts be under an outbreak? Come and see this aunt, oh no... Look at this Christmas tree.
