Today's numbers are lower in percentage terms; only one day but at least it's not obviously exponential at this stage.  Which explains the decision to remain in the current phase and not introduce any new, more disruptive, measures.

I've not had chance to catch up much today, but honestly what is this deal with people stockpiling bog roll? Surely in a time of crisis you'd be stockpiling food and medication etc, but why specifically toilet paper? Am I seriously missing something here?

I know Italy has an ageing population but can that explain the differences in death rate?.  Perhaps a mutation of the virus in that area is responsible? Italian healthcare is well thought of, so I hear. Maybe there is just a huge under reporting of cases in Italy?

I think the German system is one of the best in the world and also the Italian epidemic is much more localised (a version of Hubei I guess), but there are probably other factors too.

Just had my Ocado  receipt sent on what is   going to be delivered tonight and my single 9 pack of bog roll  has not even been subbed  let alone deleted. Also plenty in the "local shop for local people" this afternoon when I went to get my Eccles Cakes. Maybe "Bog Roll Fever"  has regional biases  ?

Their rate is actually quite close to Wuhan/Hubei. Also the Po valley has amongst the highest population densities in Europe.

Apparently, the USA had only tested 1,895 people up to yesterday, meaning over 10% of those were positive.
