Surely even you must have ripped up your Tory Party membership party card. The government wants to ensure a few billionaires can extract more rent from the UK economy rather than putting the welfare of the sovereign nation state first. Rule Britannia!

I would be surprised if the figures for this country were accurate and as some have pointed out, for obvious reasons fewer tests would be carried out on a Sunday. I am concerned about flights from the USA too - in the UK we have been carrying out far more tests per head of population than most, but the USA is well behind the curve on that one.

In South Korea you can install an app which shows the street where the nearest case is. In the UK it would lead to people getting a bullet through their heads. Cultural differences are important.

Indeed; impossible to form a judgement without the source being given - something you've mentioned a number of times here.

Here's an interesting one from an article on the Imperial College website: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/news/195976/individual-response-covid-19-important-government-action/

Some heavyweight individuals succumbing, possibly because of skiing holidays:

The deputy governor of the Swedish central bank, Martin Floden, has tested positive for coronavirus, a bank spokeswoman is quoted by Reuters news agency as saying.

The chief executive of Groupe ADP, the company which runs the two main international airports in Paris - Charles de Gaulle and Orly - has tested positive for the coronavirus, the group said.

Perhaps they have evidence that containment is working. Nobody on this forum has tested positive yet (so I believe), so we don't know what the authorities do when someone does - are they good at tracing all contacts?

Once the spread becomes exponential, the chances of tracing all contacts and isolating them becomes virtually impossible - that is why Italy for example, has now had to resort to extreme measures.

So last year 37,000 Americans died from the common Flu. It averages between 27,000 and 70,000 per year. Nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on. At this moment there are 546 confirmed cases of CoronaVirus, with 22 deaths. Think about that!

This is from Sky:

'No rationale to close or cancel sporting events as things stand'

Governing bodies and sports broadcasters met with officials at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to discuss potential contingency plans for sporting events in the event that coronavirus puts a stop to events.

A DCMS statement said: "Senior government officials chaired a constructive meeting of sports and broadcast partners, as part of sensible contingency planning in relation to Covid-19.

"This included a discussion of how staging sporting events behind closed doors could work in practice, should the situation change and become necessary.

"However based upon the current scientific advice from the Government's medical experts there is no rationale to close or cancel sporting events as things stand.

"We will remain in regular dialogue with sports governing bodies and broadcasters, ensuring they are in receipt of the most up to date guidance from the health authorities."

It looks at present that it is the weaker version prevalent in the UK, with the stronger version in Italy.

Could it be possible to have both Influenza and covid19 at the same time? Was there recently a flu outbreak in lombardy region?

This should concern all who are worried about CO2 emissions and global warming - European Ghost Flights:

https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-airlines-run-empty-ghost-flights-planes-passengers-outbreak-covid-2020-3?r=US&IR=T

If the EU wanted to do something worthwhile, it would lift the requirements to land planes or lose landing slots:

  • Airlines are running empty "ghost" flights during the coronavirus outbreak because of European rules forcing operators to run their allocated flights or risk losing their slots.

  • Some airlines have wasted thousands of gallons of fuel flying the empty planes into and out of Europe.

  • Demand for flights has collapsed worldwide, with one airline-industry group saying the outbreak could wipe out up to $113 billion in sales.

  • UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps wrote to flight regulators demanding that the "use it or lose it" rules be suspended to stop the ghost flights.

 More on this:

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/airlines-are-flying-empty-planes-to-keep-slots-during-the-coronavirus-crisis-c8w33vzqg

"...

Under European Union laws, airlines must operate 80 per cent of their allocated airport slots under normal circumstances or risk losing them to a competitor — the so-called 80/20 rule. It still applies to the UK under the terms of the Brexit transition agreement.

One UK airline told The Times that without a relaxation of the rules it would have to operate 32 flights over the next three weeks with an average of only 40 per cent of seats filled. In all, it would fly with more than 5,200 empty seats during that period.

Mr Shapps said that some planes were being flown with no passengers at all to satisfy the rules.

Just look at the official Italian map, most of the country has widely spread cases with only a gradual increase day per day. This is similar to what is happening in the UK and most other European countries. Look though at the big cluster in Lombardy, a small and densely populated area. The vast majority of deaths are from that area.
