So yesterday I went to Sainsbury’s and they seemed to have reasonable stock of toilet rolls. Went in this evening and nothing.

This is where herd mentality kicks in because tomorrow if there happens to be stock I will buy two packs because I don’t know how quickly they will sell out again.

That’s a very good point Paul

There may be all sorts of factors which differentiate a mild case from a fatal one. Some may even be genetic or social.

I remain of the view that there is no predicting the progress of this.

Presidential election in the US this year. Going to be interesting if the virus takes off in the States because the candidates traditionally have mass rallies to win votes especially their party conventions to formalise their candidacy.

And all the candidates who are vying for office are 70+

Hmmm. Seems the viral signature for severe symptoms is far, far worse than influenza. The issue will be one of comorbidity, and that might be potentially undiagnosed.

Those that are looking at curves on graphs should not be taking comfort from what I've heard tonight.

It seems like the British bulldog spirit is kicking in,we ain`t letting some virus which we may not even contract stop normal life from continuing and so it should! look at Cheltenham today and if your local is doing business as usual then that is surley a good thing. Lets face it 385 cases out of 70 million is feck all, even if say 70,000 get it its still only 1% of the population of the uk.

Not only are infection rates currently higher in most of Europe, but speaking from personal experience, flying, airports and taxis are ideal vectors for catching stuff. When I was flying to and from Germany every fortnight, I had a run of bugs - I even started to worry that I might have picked up HIV or some other condition and compromised my immune system - but I had a thorough health check ( the works ) and nothing was wrong other than I had been exposed to more pathogens than is normal.

Don’t wish to stereotype but I’d suspect your risk-factors for HIV would be very very low.

Is it odd that this virus has been about for some time, with a considerable number of cases,  but it's health impact (in numbers getting what symptoms) is still fairly poorly understood? Presumably not.

But, I've not had time to keep up with this fully, and I've read about it having strains and I guess we might see mutations.

All in all I don't think the news gets better.

Cases ramping up in Germany:

1,565 - 341 new in the last 24 hours. Yet still only 2 deaths. German hospitals are either particularly effective at keeping people alive, or else they have some novel therapy (as Brian suggested the other day).

Advice not to touch your face, shake hands etc, the trouble is if you have a habit of touching your face, you are not going to stop, you can't help but do it.

So much conjecture. It’s unhealthy and usually becomes outdated after a few days.
