Anyhow, for a bit of light relief, read Rod Liddle in the ST today and here is another insightful piece:

Here if you need to talk - as are numerous other UIA regulars who are mostly a bunch of good people.

If you want to see a change of attitude in the light of cold reality:

Merkel not in favour of closing borders

Germany closing border

Our head has emailed all staff saying we need to be ready for a closure. She also mentions our Y5 residential next week could be postponed.

We will also be two staff down as both are self-isolating with mild flu-like symptoms - though given symptoms likely not Covid-19.

Look, I'm not after sympathy as many are in a far worse position than me.

I hope your mum is ok, and all too soon you're able to see and hug her. Same goes for everyone else in such a position.

I’m not quite in the over 70’s age group yet but even so, I can assure you that I’d rather die now with the love of my family, than be torn away from them, just so that I could maybe live a few more months or years!  Who knows what might happen to me, I could die of anything.

It isn’t just the old ones who die, some of our younger loved ones die too!  Eight years ago, my younger brother died at the age of 49, then four years ago, my eldest son died, aged 43.  Both died very suddenly and neither from a virus.  Make the most of your time together with your loved ones while you can.  None of us know what’s around the corner and none of us are here forever!

Having said that, I wouldn’t want anyone to feel guilty if they’d taken a virus to their elderly parent or nan that caused their death.  It’s a case of which is the worse of the two evils, infection or abandonment?  But you can take extra precautions, perhaps you don’t need to hug them.  Just be there!  I’m sure they’d tell you the same thing I’ve just said.

Just hold on the thought that the vast majority of the elderly will be fine in the end.
At least it will be mild!

Hi Saint, thanks for your reply. I agree with your posts-wasn't meant to criticise you. I was just looking for someone to talk to, but my social skills are poor. Wish you and everyone here the best and be able to pull though this. :)

One thing that I have not seen proposed yet,on here or elsewhere is that the govt suspend the sunday trading laws ans allow the big supermarkets to stay open 24/7 if they wish along with 24//7 deliveries.I also think its time to bring in strict rationing on ALL items that people can buy to ensure there is enough for everyone especially for those getting stuff for the over 70`s. This panic buying/hoarding has to be forecibly stopped.

I don't see the point in panic buying. All the countries with severe restrictions still allow food shopping and seeing as you would have no idea if or when you might be infected all your supplies could run out before then.
At least it will be mild!

7.9million could be in hospital over the next year with 4/5 expected to be infected over two waves

I also can't help feeling increasingly angry at the backwards freaks who, by scoffing wild animals, have caused this. Those gobshites would eat a turd if it grew legs and some pillock 6 centuries ago said it cured headaches and a floppy dick.
