I got my wife to fill the freezer in February (no, we did not need to buy a new one, since we have two already - one in the garage and an upright one in the kitchen). But I did not foresee that there would be a run on toilet rolls, although we have sufficient for a week or two. That is the mad one - the UK has the capacity to manufacture all the toilet rolls we could need, so quite why people have been hoarding them is beyond me.

The enormity of the situation is beginning to sink in IMO. I've just been told Imagination Technologies (about 900 people) have got virtually all of their staff working from home indefinitely from tomorrow.

Currys starting to run out of fridge freezers now as the panic buying loonies suddenly remember they haven't got the space to store all the stuff

Social gatherings like weddings appear to be a very good way of spreading the infection.

14 days isolation for the whole household will have even more of an impact on work and school.  How many households don’t have somebody with a cough at this time of year?  The country will be in voluntary lockdown pretty soon without HMG declaring one.

I have been steadily stocking up without panic buying over the past couple of weeks and could survive a month now without doing any shopping (though I'd have to cut back on my drinking!) and I'll be maintaining that level from now on - most people ought be in that sort of situation.  And most should be able to do at least some shopping every week (or get someone to do it for them).   Although my housemate appears to have enough for about a couple of days (we share a house but are otherwise totally independent).

Edit: most single people.  I appreciate that a family requires a lot more and it may be less practical to store that much food and other stuff (has anyone thought about washing powder?)

Quote from part one of this thread:

SARS only killed 800 throughout the world. This is similar. Its not a flu pandemic and most people who get it recover

Its utter media hysteria

People need to understand this. The toilet roll run isn’t because everyone thinks that they will be stuck on the toilet.

It’s because of you placed in isolation for weeks on end, you need to have provisions in place.

Imagine if you are a family of four in isolation for a number of weeks, you must have adequate supplies.

Why can’t people understand this rather than labelling people panic buyers

We have two kids, one is still in nappies, but it’s amazing how much toilet roll the older one seems to get through!

Yet again. I am seeing people down pubs on my Facebook. It’s a disgrace, I’ve had to yet again call people out on their responsibilities.

It seems that this softly approach is not working

I do believe more extreme measures will be introduced on Thursday. This was alluded to by the PM.

Because in war times for example if push comes to shove you find other ways I’m sorry but it’s true.

Get a old T shirt use it and boil it like the old nappies I had use it again repeat that’s the way, or find some other way some people have had life easy.

what  choice is there if stock is gone.

Some people the weekend before last were going out with 108 cans of fizzy pop alone from a well known freezer store these were 18 packs on a 3 for £24 offer.

Who seriously needs that many cans? Yep. Those looking to sell them off at inflated prices.
