So nothing for renters and self employed. Sunak is a smooth talker, but another slimeball spiv

Most of us are now working from home as of tomorrow. Workshop / test bays are still running however, so anyone supporting that directly has to go in. Wondering if I’ll have a job a few months down the line but just taking each day as it comes.

French authorities report a further 27 deaths, bringing the total to 175 - and what's more, 7% are in people aged under-65.

The country now has a total of 7,730 cases - an increase of 17% in past 24 hours - with 699 people in intensive care.

I have started my 12 week lockdown. It’s very very sad. But the right thing to do.

I’ve cancelled my birthday plans next week too Liverpool as well.

My best mate is heading away from London to be near his elderly mother.

I feel for everyone tonight. These are desperately sad times.

You can freeze eggs too but obviously not in their shells.

The British government has published its Coronavirus Bill.

Among others, measures include allowing retired NHS staff back into work without affecting their pensions, allowing doctors to discharge patients with minimal paperwork.

Changes to councils’ duties under the Care Act allow them to prioritise people with the greatest care needs and make the best use people working in social care.

The bill formalises many of the proposals described in the prime minister and chancellor's press conference.

A government spokesperson said that other measures in the legislation include:

  • Allowing police and immigration officers to support and enforce public health measures, including powers to detain people and put them in appropriate isolation facilities

  • Making arrangements for statutory sick pay for those self-isolating without symptoms from day one

  • Allowing small businesses to reclaim statutory sick pay payments from the government

  • Allowing more phone or video hearings for court cases to stop the spread of the virus in courts

  • Enabling Border Force to temporarily suspend operations at airports or other transport hubs if there are insufficient resources to maintain border security

Just come off the phone from my son-in-law (GP).

He tells me that Wolverhampton, the Black Country, Staffordshire and parts of Warwickshire are West Midlands blackspots, but Worcestershire is still a good place to be with comparatively very few cases. Wolverhampton is a particular blackspot, with @ 40 hospitalised cases. When I asked him why the variation in numbers, he said a number of factors, including a big local wedding in the area (Wolverhampton) recently.

Social gatherings like weddings appear to be a very good way of spreading the infection.

But also

Gatherings will be banned - people can only leave their homes in an emergency, or to go to food shops, pharmacies, the post office, and banks. But outdoor exercise and walks will be allowed - with people being asked to keep a distance 1.5 M

There is no real hint of school closures up here currently but there are measures being implemented to ensure they can still run with fewer staff.

Edit: most single people.  I appreciate that a family requires a lot more and it may be less practical to store that much food and other stuff (has anyone thought about washing powder?)
