What about people who can't work from home? What about the doctors and nurses who need to get to work? How are those people supposed to get around?

The problem with your theory is that most of the those who will snuff it are likely to be Tory voters.

There is going to have to be a major crackdown because otherwise those who 'talk a good game' - utter tw4ts like Beast and one of my friends who said he was going to stop going to the pub and then went anyway 'because he felt fine' - will continue to do so.

These people don't care about the virus continuing to spread more quickly because of numbers circulating in pubs, clubs, etc. All they think about is that they are OK, their friends are OK and so there is no risk. They don't care about asymptomatic carriers, they don't care about the elderly and the vulnerable. All they care about is their own gratification. They will contort any argument to justify carrying on as normal while slagging off the Govt and others for not doing enough.

It makes me sick to the pit of my stomach, frankly. It is just about the most selfish act possible. It should be as socially unacceptable as drink driving but unfortunately there are plenty of red-faced pr1cks out there who are willing to tell the Daily Mail or Sky News that there is no danger from going to the pub.

To anybody who is doing this, I say this: Get this through your thick f5cking skull - it is not about you. It is about the continued circulation of the virus among medium to large size groups. By ignoring advice, you are potentially signing the death warrants of scores of vulnerable and elderly people.

Just sent the following email to my MP - I have checked my email chain and I first emailed her 2 full weeks ago begging the government to bring in severe travel restrictions:

"The real scandal (and I mean the real scandal) is that borders were not closed and travel severely restricted weeks ago!

The whole of Europe has let its citizens down in that regard.

It was frankly obscene that we were still allowing people to travel to Italy for skiing holidays after the outbreak became apparent there.

There would have been an economic hit from cancelling people's holidays, but it would have been nothing like the scale which we are facing now.
I can never forgive the government for this - the warning signs were there - we could not have kept it out completely, but our chances of containing it like South Korea would have been much, much stronger if we had closed borders at an early point.

It was a dereliction of duty by the Government - utterly wrong to stick by the globalist mantra in the face of a novel virus pandemic - people will die because such action was not taken as I and many others wanted at an early enough stage and the ensuing economic meltdown might have been averted."

New world order coming.

Very important piece. The Imperial report was too pessimistic. Thus CAN be stopped without other waves when lockdown is lifted.

I appreciate that keeping it out of the UK completely was never going to be realistically possible. However, even if prevention wasn't possible, then mitigating against the virus in this country, which we are now trying to do very belatedly, may have been a bit easier had more been done many weeks ago.

Some good news

"The BBC said production on EastEnders, Casualty, Doctors, Holby City, Welsh drama Pobol y Cwm and BBC Scotland's River City will all be halted.

Meanwhile EastEnders' episodes will now just air on Mondays at 8pm and Tuesdays at 7:30pm with immediate effect."

I still firmly believe that if those that need to self isolate do so properly then they will remain virus free. Society can then continue with some impacts and once the rest of us have got it then we will all be in a position to assist those that need help.

The assistance with 3D printing is feasible, as is the production of some of the other components but they still have to be assembled and tested. A few weeks to ramp up component production I can understand, but I wouldn’t expect the new ‘gestalt’ final units to be ready for several months yet.

Indeed, echoing other’s comments, please, please keep the debate civil...on the whole the contributions imho...have been excellent... what we don’t need is a Lord of The Flies situation with this forum descending into vitriolic personal abuse ...Brian would then surely close it down...and that would be a great, great shame...

Some other pictures from journeys in today (although the time of journey isn't on them)

Just been to the supermarket. Very busy for a weekday but i guess people are trying to get their early before everything sells out. Still some empty shelves/aisles. Fruit and veg had recovered the most but very little meat/fish for instance.

I give you the governor of Lombardy Attilio Fontana (of the far-right League) on 25 February 2020: he told the regional parliament that the coronavirus was “just a little more than normal flu and people should continue to lead a normal life”. The next day, the Governor relaxed partial restrictions on bars and restaurants only three days after passing them. One week later the number of deaths in Lombardy started exploding.

Very sobering, but something people need to be aware of and to prepare for:

"...

Dying patients should be encouraged to say goodbye to their families over Skype during a major coronavirus outbreak, according to official guidance issued to NHS hospitals.

Families should be restricted from visiting their relatives in intensive care to avoid spreading the disease on hospital wards, doctors have been told.

Instead relatives should be asked to use "mobile devices and video calling" to speak to dying patients rather than risk contracting the disease by visiting them in person.

..."
