Corbyn shouldn't be allowed in then? Social distancing for the over 70s.

Very sobering, but something people need to be aware of and to prepare for:

Thankfully it won't happen!

London could be an utter catastrophe, given everything I've seen and heard.

And let's see what happens in Liverpool in a 7-10 days' time.

France is concerned about what people will get up to with all the spare time on their hands, so has announced the following:

"With all that home confinement, the French government has decided to relax rules on contraception in an apparent bid to avoid an unwanted pregnancy spike.

Marlène Schiappa, the gender equality minister, has issued a statement saying that women can use old prescriptions to directly pick up new stocks of the contraceptive pill from chemists without going through a doctor in order to reduce their workload and risk of contagion."

- looks odd to me though - given demographics in most European countries, surely having a baby boom would be of long term benefit?

New world order coming.

Very important piece. The Imperial report was too pessimistic. Thus CAN be stopped without other waves when lockdown is lifted.

Just listening to an ents planner on LBC saying she expects virtually nothing will go ahead this year. Her view is football won't restart until next year.

Another option is to make the underground key workers only

As I also said yesterday, there is no good outcome possible here.

You are right of course that there are no good outcomes here and actually I agree that the economy should be taken into account. If it ever came to a choice though between 'letting' thousands of people to die and taking a big economic hit (which could be repairable), I think it should be an easy decision to make.

Although not normally a fan of him, I have been impressed by Jeremy Hunt in this crisis. I guess he knows only too well how stretched the NHS is and how it will struggle if the workload suddenly explodes.

I thought I should make a more positive post for a change (copied from the other thread):

If we have to stay home for prolonged periods I think Internet will be very useful in many ways. I also think people underestimate the potential positive impacts:

  • a slower pace of life and more resting

  • many people will spend more quality time with their kids and their pets

  • new hobbies will be found and old ones revisited

  • community spirit might be rekindled

What happens depends on the timescale though.
