Yes I said many times this Friday looked odds on I have been asked tonight If I would carry on with my part/time caretaker duties maybe up September for key workers children meaning unlocking and setting alarms along with other duties and cleaning duties I did question the former but the thing is I’d like to to my little bit even at my age so have agreed to all if school is chosen for key workers I’m guessing it won’t be for many children I’m just going to be very careful as we are all going to be.

Interesting - that meeting I was in 2 weeks ago (where I got coughed on by the headteacher) turned out to be correct. All along they'd been working on this Friday being the last day and so it is.

The more worrying thing for the school will be how they handle the "key worker" / vulnerable children... it'll be interesting to see how they handle that staffing wise.

Anyway, day 1 of formal self isolation for me has ended. Still have the sore throat and I still feel a bit woozy, but I still have my sense of smell and taste! I still reckon it's just a cold, but we'll see!

My mum died last week and it looks as though my wife and I will only be able to attend the funeral "remotely". My dad died on Boxing Day so  both of my parents have gone within the space of a few months. They were 92 and 89 so both had quite long lives. A big part of me thinks they both got out at just the right time. It really feels as though the world has been turned on its head in the last 6 months.

I really don't understand what's going on in the UK at the moment. All pubs, hotels and restaurants are closed here. Most shops too. Only pubs were specifically asked to close but shops and restaurants have closed partly because people are heeding government advice to  stay at home. This is the only way that we will get on top of the virus. Give it 2 to 3 weeks, we will start to see the benefits. I don't understand why similar measures are not being taken in the UK.

People should start tweeting Downing Street with pictures and make Boris will take up. Actually he wont, he can’t be bothered to get the out of bed.

I am so desperately sorry to hear this Brian. My condolences to you.

You have kept this place running since 2001 and even during your only personal difficulties. It’s a wonderful community thank you.

I feel it is quite emotional in here this evening. We're not exactly a large community on TWO either. Yet it really hits home how we all need to pull together as a nation, as local communities - citywide to street level - after reading several heartwrenching posts of recent losses from many esteemed posters on here. I can only imagine the hardship we will face nationally given the oft' hidden personal challenges we all deal with on a day-to-day basis. Tough times ahead.

I don't mean to sound all doomy and negative btw - sometimes the magnitude of the situation we're in creeps up on you. LIke Caz said in the positivity thread, the challenge of rising to fight this and help out can be a rewarding one though

problem solved. All a fuss about nothing. Keep Britain open! Sorry, I’m drunk! Feels like the last hurrah in the pub tonight. We know enforced close is coming so it’s a final farewell for many months. Like we are soldiers heading out to battle not knowing who will return

Yes we will rise to the challenges, most British will come together as history has taught us it will be proven in history that this generation are indeed very courageous and brave and we will be very proud of ourselves it will be written in stone.

lest we forget are loved memories will live forever.

I really cant see this peaking in 2 to 3 weeks , it would be blink and you miss it which is opposite to everything that's been said

The thing is, given the way he has responded to the crisis so far, I am not at all sure he will do that. However I could be proved wrong with my scepticism.

Had a walk around here and most pubs/restaurants are very quiet, just a few people in them. The odd more popular pub was busier, with at least one person at most tables, but the atmosphere was decidedly downbeat.

Sorry to hear that Justin. Some people just carried on totally deluded, as though they could go anywhere and do anything.

Just come off the phone to my son-in-law who as you know is a GP - their receptionist went to Turkey last week for a holiday and is now stuck there. This is someone who works in the healthcare sector who was still mad enough to go on a foreign holiday last week because "she had paid for it". Nuts!

Anyone taking a foreign holiday in the past two weeks was either nuts or ignorant. Sorry!

The jump of deaths in Italy today is a blow to hopes the severe restrictions were working after a levelling off last three days.
Hopefully it won’t be repeated or the 25K modelled for Italy looks depressingly realistic.
