No. What he is doing it seems is actively encouraging his customer base to commit involuntary man slaughter.

TBH, there are very varied reports about the severity of symptoms. Some people get hit very hard and others it seems, have very mild symptoms. I hypothesise that there are a number of factors which predispose people to severe symptoms, some of which may be genetic and most of which are currently unknown.

As I mentioned yesterday, now the list of keyworkers is out, you'll see the schools are not closed. Far from it.
They might as well carry on with the exams!
I wonder if this was factored in to the imperial model?
My view is the Government still haven't actually done anything tacit and that we're more on course for 250k deaths than 20k.

Now, a good proportion of those deaths would be amongst retired and vulnerable people, who in a strictly utilitarian sense, don't contribute anything to the economy - but they are also parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters - this is not a national struggle like a World War, people would see their loved ones being taken away and would not think "this is for the good of the economy".

I am certainly not advocating any such strategy, just trying to portray the logic of it.

The UK testing regime almost guarantees that we have little idea how far/fast this is spreading in the population at large but I'm sure that social distancing is having an effect. Round here, the streets are deserted and traffic is very thin. People are keeping their distance and not touching each other when they meet. Elbow bumps instead of handshakes and respectful distances kept.

Inevitably the people on whom the virus is having very little effect won’t show up anything like as often anecdotally - and not at all in the data without  a test.

Oxfordshire is one of the worst affected counties - wouldn't be that a lot of people from Oxfordshire go skiing would it?

In Worcestershire, we still only have 8 official cases and our hospitals bear that out, whilst Birmingham hospitals are under pressure. Odd how adjacent regions can have such different profiles - you can of course point out that Worcestershire is a largely rural county and the West Midlands conurbation is densely populated, which of course is true - but Oxfordshire is largely rural too, as is Hampshire (which is also a hotspot).

Hampshire does contain a large urban conurbation around Southampton/Portsmouth and it is a transport hub.

Any lockdown is not sustainable for months anyway. If the virus is going to return anyway, whats the point in trying to contain it? Hot summer temps don't seem to have much impact as we see in India, and a vaccine is perhaps a year away

I suspect that long term the death numbers may be similar whatever we do. If we "let it rip" we'll have a high death rate in the next few months but much less over the next few years (assuming it's not "cured"). Plus, hospitals will be unable to cope and those with other illnesses and injuries will suffer (and die) as a consequence. Spreading the death rate over the longer (longest possible) term does now seem to me to be more sensible.

The Government may seem reluctant to enforce what is needed but the military will have been briefed and the plans drawn up to be called upon within 24 hours.
If we continue to raid supermarkets and act irresponsibly these measures will be implemented and the government will have the perfect excuse to carry it out.

The die is cast now and we are probably heading for hundreds of deaths daily by the end of March. Hopefully we'll never reach the Italian daily numbers, but our high numbers could easily last longer due to the half measures.
