Really interesting report on the BBC News at Six right now.

Fergus Walsh just took one of the antibody tests, after having no symptoms whatsoever.

Came back positive.

It is obvious that we need someone to blame as the death toll rises, we cannot really criticised virus. I suspect the other European and N American countries are doing the same as the death toll follows the same trend and pattern.

As ever hindsight will show what worked and what didn’t.

The delay between infection and death will mean any indication of effectiveness of current measures and assessment of the current situation will be reflected in the statistics in around three weeks time.

Our current situation is only possibly a judgement of the situation around three weeks ago.

The facts are the government knew the virus was coming, back in January, if not before.

They did almost nothing to ramp up preparations until March 11th-12th.

They sat on their hands while focussing on Brexit, they, the cabinet, led by Johnson, were far more concerned about getting Ben Ben to chime for their masturbatory celebrations than in preparing for the coming storm.

What angers me more than anything is the complete lack of honesty from them subsequently, the inability to admit mistakes, the evasion of questions, the moral cowardice of those that realise they are culpable.

I resent your false assertion that "people" need someone to blame.

Blame lies entirely with those in responsibility, the government, for their criminal lack of preparation while they slapped themselves on the back for their election victory.

So will anybody be taking part in this evenings second "clap"? Apparently it now includes "key workers".

Not really my sort of thing but if others want to then fine by me.

Hancock seemed under pressure, as you can imagine. There was one moment when talking about the NHS he seemed quite emotional.
When we stand on the doorsteps tonight, yes I'll be thinking about our workers, but also those who are dying while we stand there and those more in future that will die.
I hate seeing this blame game. In these unprecedented times, all I can see is people coming and working together. We will get on top of this.
The 'problem' is if you like is those in charge around the world where you can see proactivity against reactivity and I know where we fit in.
I do wonder how we would have reacted if there were reports of a 50% death rate coming out of China 3 months ago. You would have hoped we would have shut down all borders immediately.
While there will be many more deaths with Cov19, we could have 'got out of jail' because if the 'big one' had hit us, we would never have recovered from that.
Boy do we need a proactive plan for the future. The threat should be treated just the same as nuclear conditions.

For the last few days, I've been encouraged by a local populus respecting the situation. The roads have been almost as quiet as on snow days and I've barely seen anybody outside. Today, this seems to be changing and I can actually hear the traffic on the M3 sounding as if all were normal. Trucks and cars seem to be passing by more frequently, almost as if the lockdown is coming to an end and I am really concerned. BJ's team did warn of people wearing out their ability to maintain for long enough.

The lockdown should be eased slightly to allow people to enjoy some time outdoors whilst still maintaining strict social distancing. The longer the current situation goes on the more problems there will be.

I think the antibodies test will be a great tool, but it won't be a panacea. Let's say we had right now 70 million reliable (>99% accuracy) antibody tests and everybody was tested today. Those testing positive would get passes and could go back to normal, but if the vast majority tested negative, what do we do then? Keep testing all of these people weekly?

We need much more testing for the NHS staff (all those isolating should be tested) and also to start testing in the population again. Widespread testing should only be part of the solution though, contact tracing and isolation of positives is the most important aspect and this is what Asian countries (including China) have done so successfully. The lockdown should be used to buy us time and do this, otherwise the lockdown will last much longer or repeated and the impacts on the economy and the psychology of people will be really bad.

How could it be policed anyway: you could have a group of 3 or 4 adults and some children who happen to live in the same house and another group of identical composition that is from three different homes.

So what's the answer?  At some point the rules will have to be relaxed. Will that point come before June or not?
