If there wasn't incompetence in the NHS then they must all be at the very least demigods.   They are not.  So, what do you expect?

The fall in hospital bed admissions sounds positive assuming all the data was included - I think it was.

Spanish death toll rises by 619

Spain is "far from victory" in its fight against the coronavirus, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has warned, as the country's death toll from the pandemic rose again after falling for three days in a row.

The nation registered 619 new deaths in the last 24 hours from Covid-19, bringing the death toll to 16,972, the health ministry said, the highest in the world after the United States and Italy. The toll was 510 on Saturday, the lowest since March 23.

But the number of new infections continued its slow, rising by 4,167 to 166,019, a smaller increase than was recorded on Saturday.

In worse news, the unwanted migrants have shown up again. They should be taken straight back to France, no questions asked. I mean, hell, you're not allowed to go out on a pleasure craft given the lockdown, yet we're happily bringing these migrants ashore.

https://www.kentonline.co.uk/dover/news/dozens-of-migrants-detained-off-coast-225538/

"Border Force officials have brought 72 migrants to Dover after four boats crossing the English Channel were intercepted today.

It comes after 57 were detained on Wednesday and a further 59 tried to make the journey on Tuesday."

...

The Border Force and partner agencies were first alerted to a RHIB (rigid-hulled inflatable boat) travelling towards the UK at 6.30am, carrying a group of 12 males who presented as Iraqi and Iranian nationals.

Shortly afterwards a group of 10 males and eight females, who presented as Iraqi, Iranian and Syrian nationals, were spotted.

Then, at 9.45am, a Border Force vessel intercepted a RHIB carrying a group of 13 males who, again, presented as Iraqi and Iranian nationals.

There was a fourth boat found approaching a beach in Hastings where 25 males and four females, presenting as Iranian and Iraqi, were on board.

For goodness' sake - they're not even going to lock them up for 2 weeks to quarantine them.

I think it's easier to understand the personal good wishes and adulation of Johnson when you look at human nature and the numbers. At first it seems odd when he is not actually known to these people. But if we assume a more realistic number of half a million people infected then it is still only one in a hundred people. And probably more like one in 500 for people badly affected. So very few people personally know anybody seriously ill or who have died. But when you know a lot of people are sadly badly affected it is human nature to want to show your empathy and good wishes and because of his familiarity and exposure he will be the closest thing to them at the moment to an actual friend or relative. He sort of represents the human face of the tomb of the unknown soldier.

Why does that break the rules? Both in total isolation, within a couple of km of your home and in my book (going back 40 years) an essential journey. The things we used to do to get a two year old to sleep you wouldn't believe!
