Moscow infections 'three times higher' than reported
From the BBC news ticker:
"Russia's capital Moscow has been the epicentre of the country's coronavirus outbreak. Official figures report 92,676 confirmed cases in the city, out of Russia's total 177,160 recorded infections.
But Moscow's mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, has said the number of cases is far higher. According to Tass news agency, Sobyanin said there were actually around 300,000 in the city alone.
The latest official data shows Russia now has the fifth highest number of infections worldwide. In the last 24 hours case numbers grew by 11,231 - the fifth consecutive day that figure has been over 10,000.
The reported death toll is 1,625 - far lower than in many other countries, including those with smaller confirmed case totals".

With his honesty, looks like Sergei maybe 'falling out of a window' very soon.
So why the cover up Russia?

What politics, there is no political capital to be gained by critisizing the NHS which has a 98% public approval last I checked.

The contact tracing app should have nothing to do with the NHS. It should come from a tech firm that knows what they are doing.

Your forelock-tugging defence of the Tories is as comical as it is predictable. You're like Maunder with a less girly growl.

When it comes to criticising actions by an authority which affect a lot of people, the key issue is the statistical effect. Do you think it is wrong in principle that the Government is providing vouchers to families which normally get free school meals?

If you approve of the policy, then what is the issue?

Is it that it is not working? Having anecdotal evidence from those who have had problems, does not mean the policy is flawed, it means that some people have unfortunately had problems for one reason or another.

Highlighting individual cases is only worthwhile in the broader context of whether a system in general is working for most people most of the time or otherwise.

Or shall I just assume that you simply disapprove of the whole Government policy of trying to assist those struggling to feed their families?

On a different tack I find that some Companies are hiding behind this crisis to give poor customer service. It's an easy excuse to use. My three year lease is up on my car and I should have a number of financial options. I've been phoning, emailing and asking questions on their website for six weeks. Finally after a very threatening email from me and four days before the end of the agreement I get a reply. It didn't answer one specific question and said - sorry, you had to apply for the extension to finance three weeks ago! I'd been requesting details of that for six weeks!

As far as I understand car sales are down so they should be less busy than usual. Showrooms are definitely shut so that's another busy daily communication they haven't got. When it started they said they were still operating but some staff were working from home. (More like skiving at home!). They never once answered the "vulnerable" hot line or any of the options and the line just went dead after ringing a few times. It was only a phone and online service before anyway.

I'm afraid the Corona virus has become a convenient excuse for some.

You'd be surprised just how tough things are at the moment.

If our place is anything to go by, you'll find that most customer service staff are on furlough, and there will only be a quarter, or even a fifth of the workforce in, actively working from home.

We sell training (which is obviously not happening at the moment), but we are still having enquiries coming in fairly steadily, so things are definitely slower than usual in terms of response times.

Car leasing is always a pain in the arse though, I share your pain.

The way it works at my school (can't speak for the others) is that the parents sign into a website and are given a voucher code to use (on line), or they can get paper vouchers sent to them. The ones I've seen are pretty generic gift voucher codes, they can be spent on anything (even DVDs!)

There's a Facebook group that's been set up by parents at my school and believe me, if anything goes wrong you hear all about it on there. (It's a public group, so you don't need a Facebook account to see it).

I don't think its a massive problem but there are clearly a lot of people not happy

The Covid app was built by VM for NHSx. It categorically was not built by the NHS. You can read about how NHSx works with digital partners here:

Again, it's likely the app runs on the VMWare platform behind the scenes, but I very much doubt that VMWare Inc wrote the apps themselves.

Do you have a link that backs up the assertion that VMWare wrote the app themselves?

EDIT: Found it. Technically yes, I guess VMWare did write it - there's a caveat though.

It's Pivotal who are doing it - they're an app company that was taken over by VMWare a few months ago. That would make sense for them to use the parent company's infrastructure.
