25.4C here now. We had a bbq tonight and I have sat outside in t shirts and shorts without a hint of feeling cool. I love evenings like this. Perhaps a couple of times a year events. Probably not so fun to sleep in but all windows and blinds are open again now after being closed all day so it should start cooling off indoors.

Hit 34.7c here today. Absolutely baking even the usual cool breeze never made it inland. In 22 years of recording it is the highest Temperature I have recorded. Norwich airport recorded 35c which is just up road and verifies my Davis VP2 reading 😎😎😎. 10pm and still 26.2c!

Several places still at or above 27C at 10pm. Think the record minimum is too much to ask though.

It was on the rooftop of the LWC which was most recently in Clerkenwell Road, but before that in Holborn. See some history here: https://rmets.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1002/wea.81

This really goes to show just how dire the summers are up in northeast England..

From the metoffice this evening:

"This Evening and Tonight:

Fine during the evening, with some hazy sunny spells. Tending to become cloudier and cooler from the northwest as the night progresses, leading to areas of mist, fog and low cloud developing later in the night in light winds. Minimum temperature 7 °C."

Yes that's a regional low of 7C in August  Whilst the southeast of the country bakes with overnight lows in the 20's.

"This Evening and Tonight:

Mainly fine and very warm with light winds during the evening and overnight. One or two fleeting showers are also possible as cloud cover increases a little from the west. Minimum temperature 18 °C."

The temperature at St Catherine’s Point has risen from a low of 21.7C at 8pm to 25.1C at midnight. Crazy.

in fact the highest hourly reading all day was the 11pm one at 25.3C. The “daytime” max was 25.2. I can see that sort of thing happening in winter but it must be pretty rare in summer for the maximum temperature to be close to midnight!

Scrap that. Langdon Bay went up on the 5am reading to 25.9C.

Could be the highest minimum of it can keep that going.

On another note. Arome going for maxes of 36C today. With variable cloud amounts that could be playing havoc with the model. But could have a sniff at a 37C or 38C of somewhere gets lucky. 850s look on the money and the starting temperature is so much higher today.

Don't forget the effect of the North Downs either - all depends on wind direction, of course, but in a NE'ly like today you'd expect Maidstone etc to see a boost in temperatures.

When you are pushing the very outer limits of what's possible everything has to line up just perfectly to make it happen so it's not surprising that potential records can be scuppered at the last moment. I do understand the frustration though!

Maidstone doesn't have an official station btw, but East Malling (less than 4 miles away) does. For once we have a station in an ideal position for today's expected flow!

EDIT: There's another shower allegedly in progress now, but it's still dry. The dewpoint's still rising steadily though, it's 17.5C now.
