More like very boring weather stations,  UK is a big country enough to see some hidden hot and cold spots.  Epsom had reached -24C to 36C range from the Surrey Weather book.  When I was in Chicago and i scanned for local stations there every one of them every few blocks away. Now Cyprus have more weather stations ratio than here for a small divided island by the locals who joined with the Cyprus Met Office.  

I had a couple of updates to that list. The Barbourne record in 1990 was removed from the Torro list recently but then so was the Faversham record from 2003. As far as the Met Office is concerned the Faversham reading still holds but they seem to have dropped the Barbourne reading per the link below.

Also there is another figure of 36.4C from 9 August 2003 at Enfield.

There is no reference to the Barbourne figure at the link below so I think perhaps that one has been discredited by the Met Office and should be removed. It was much higher than surrounding stations.

I wonder what the highest daily mean temp is though.

Heathrow with a mean of 28.85 (max 37.9, min 20.0) on 10-11 Aug 2003 is the highest I can find with a quick search but I suspect it will have been beaten by a more urban station.

I don't think your figures above are correct Rob. The minimum is taken from the 24hrs to 09z on the day in question. So the appropriate minimum that goes with the maximum of 37.9 on the 10th is the period from 09z on the 9th to 09z on the 10th. The temperature was 18.3C at 09z on the 9th. So the mean is in fact 28.1C

Looking at the highest minimum records by month the highest July minimum was St James Park at 23.3C on 29 July 1948. I looked at the maximum that day and it was 33.3C. So the mean was 28.3C which is slightly higher than the Heathrow figure above.

Could be another attempt tomorrow. Saturday has been my favoured day for a while.

Still thinking 38C is very possible but the chance of a new record is low but not off the table.

All depends on cloud cover models seem to be struggling big time with it. But if we can get a mostly clear day tomorrow I think somewhere will get very close to 100f. Same goes for Sunday and Monday maybe even Tuesday.

Well if that's the case then surely it is tomorrow's max that will count when working out the daily mean following tonight's very high minimum? And that is likely to be lower than today's, making a 30C mean very unlikely.

Although having said that it seems to be southern stations in Sussex that will have the highest minima and they are also forecast to be the hottest tomorrow. Arome for instance has minima of 23-24C and maxima of 36-37C tomorrow, making it just about feasible somewhere.

A bit weird this...27.4c here @ 21.45 hrs.

Some fascinating microclimate effects on my evening walk with a mobile thermometer. 25.2 at the end of my road...24.9 by the railway cutting...26.0 by the church...27.1C on the top of our hilltop park Hilly Fields. 

EDIT: and a whopping 28.0C on the East side of the park under the trees. That’s a 3C variation in a tiny pocket of the inner London suburbs, and surprisingly the warmest area is the greenest area. All altitude and inversion related I think. Between 25 at coldest point and 60m asl at warmest.

EDIT 2: 22.7C literally 100m down the hill at the bottom of the park.
