Good day for the CET I think, as it was very warm overnight and the heat is quite widespread and more West-focused than the last few days. 33-34C in the Pershore college area, 33C just north of the Chilterns (Luton and Stansted) so assuming Rothamsted is also up there, and warmish on the Lancashire plain. Tomorrow despite likely high temperatures in Kent and East Anglia I suspect the CET won't be so special although the night will of course be warm.

Winds at LHR still from the NE / E, which is not the ideal direction for Heathrow maxes. It likes a good strong S or SE flow bouncing over the downs. May get that a bit later as the low pressure edges up towards us.

Looking at that Reading link yesterday’s max of 34.6 came at the very late time of 1637Z, ie 5.37pm BST.

I think the Berks/Hants/Wilts area seems to be the centre of the heat today.

Edit: 34.5 now reached at Reading.

That Feltham Wunderground station has been bobbing up and down (probably with cloud cover) but currently at 34.8C, so I would expect some high numbers from Heathrow too although cloud is definitely building now over West London and all the chalk hills around the basin.

Definitely looking more towering to the east now but overhead and to the west it’s still just scattered fair-weather cumulus.

Incidentally it’s very rare for Odiham or Alice Holt to go higher than Farnborough in summer as they are more rural sites, but both were higher yesterday.

Looking at that Reading page (now up to 34.6 btw), it's amazing how the temperature is bobbing up and down there... either fast-moving clouds or a really, really sensitive sensor!!
