Summer 1911 really was extraordinary - probably considered the "Great Summer" before 1976 came along. Hot weather from early July right up to the middle of September. Not only did we have the 36.7°C on 9 August, there was also a remarkable 34.6°C on 8 September.

Then interestingly enough, 1912 was a disaster. August 1912 was not only the coldest on record, it was also the wettest and dullest on record too!

I might be wrong about this Steve, but IIRC July 1983 was the hottest CET month of the 20th century and remained so until it was toppled by the same month in 2006.

Interestingly, the hot August of 1995 came very close to matching or beating July '83 if I remember correctly, finishing only 0.3C below and is still the hottest August on record, I believe.

I used to sit on my swing in the garden and run in to tell dad, the minute the siren went.  His moped was always ready for him to hop on and do the mile to the station!

It will be interesting to see how the next couple of days go in terms of reality vs. the BBC forecast. We tend to be usually 1 or 2 degrees warmer than forecast on a full sun day, which they are forecast to be, but often very much on the mark when there's some cloud like today and yesterday. 27 and 31 show for the next two days so I will be keeping an eye out, 38 and 34 after that as the heat drifts further East and North on Tuesday. 35.9c is our current record.

Monday night is showing a min of 21c. Although we are only 40 miles from Portsmouth and obviously well inland, we have only had one night above 20c min ever that I know of, and certainly since I started recording 12 years ago. For sure central Reading will have seen many more, but a min of 21c would be another record for me.

My working day on Monday may well be spent looking at my PWS and the Reading Uni weather station site, doesn't get much more fun than that when you're in IT.

Still not seen a 40c on the Met Office App.
Heathrow was 39c Tuesday but now 38c.
Other 38cs are Doncaster and Peterborough.

Providing no downgrades in synoptics they usually rise closer to the day.

Heathrow 27.2c today. Few other 27s including Kew. Someone has obviously moved the ice cream van or whatever had taken Kew offline.

Could squeeze a 30c tmrw , squeeze a 33c Sunday and a 40c Monday

The banter-worthy weatheronline with its special optimism algorithm now has 35, 44, 42 for Sunday-Tuesday. Completely out of line with any model output bug fun all the same.

I wonder if they just take GFS output and add 2, which would have been sensible in the times before GFS improved their local resolution.

Met Office App seems to elevate temps where there is an official station. I always assumed Heathrow was high because its a hot spot but maybe not . For Tuesday :Scampton 41c
Linton on ooze 39c, Leconfield 40c. , Topcliffe 38c, Ryhill 38c all higher than the surrounding towns where people live.
Probably loads of others

I believe it will be around the Trent valley that some of the highest temperatures will be recorded.

Noticed the forecast for here on Tuesday has dropped a couple of degrees in a few apps to 33C with showers from 6pm. 35C for Monday.

Lol one of the sources on the Weawow app (World Weather Online) is showing 111f for both Monday & Tuesday

What's more strange the website for wwo only shows 39C-102f maybe they supply diffrent data to the app?

Portugal has already set a new national heat record at 47C.

Wed shows 35C in Jutland. Denmark’s all time record is 35.1C and it’s a very long standing one: 1947. This is only a glancing blow really, an afterthought, but the record could be in danger.

Netherlands record is 40.7C set like Britain’s on 25 July 2019. GFS gives them 43C.

Belgium’s record is also 40.7. They are also forecast 43C.

France of course got 45.9C in June 2019. Maxes forecast for Monday in SW a France 46C. So not out of the question.

All in all 4 national records at up for grabs in the space of 3 days, 3 set only : years ago in 2 different heatwaves, the 4th set 75 years ago.
