Yep weve got used to them but they are truly historic charts. Nothing compares in the TWO era imo.

The temperatures likely tomorrow and Tuesday (particularly if we get really high e.g. 42/43c) are unlikely to have been reached in the UK for thousands of years, perhaps all the way back to the last interglacial period 115,000 years ago.

We can't know for certain of course but it's a fascinating if scary thought.

I haven't seen a single bird in my garden all morning (although there was a red kite soaring over earlier).   Despite it being the only place for water round here (apart from neighbour's paddling pools)

Thankfully, the sparrows all fledged a week or so ago.  I guess they have fled to somewhere cooler!  I wonder if they somehow know what's coming?

https://weatherobs.com/ gives a good graphical overview. Includes some unofficial stations too I think.

Although the botanic gardens in Edinburgh is still classed as a Met Office station, it seems to have lost that status by quite a lot as such over recent years and fallen more into the shadow of nearby Edinburgh Gogarbank which is an official station with a WMO number that starts with 03..

In fact, the botanic gardens in Edinburgh's own website used to be really good at publicly supplying summaries of all of its past data from 2009 onwards. However, they stopped providing access to that data at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic back in 2020 and since then, they have also removed all of the links to that past data on their website.

Luckily, I was able to grab that data at an earlier time when I was able to do so and thus, use that for my various reports on this forum. Because of that, I still have that data on my own systems.

Had I not done that back then and had I now been looking for that data, there is no currently no way which I know of, of being able to get that data and I think that it is so sad that this has now become the case.

30C breached already today, 30.1C at Santon Downham at 1pm. I think the 31-32 forecasts may be underdone.

Edit: also 30.1C at Chivenor right on the coast in Devon.

There are other birds around (I can hear them chirping), but they're staying in the trees. They're not daft!

Looks like there is nothing higher than 38C on the Met Office forecast map for Tuesday now. 37C the highest tomorrow. The auto output still has some higher readings eg 38 and 42 for Leconfield.
