Apparently Charlwood might be faulty. It went up 4.1c in an hour

Based on local/private weather stations around the EM's on my phone/PC.

Not sure what mine is and I wont know until I get home.

Not as pretty as yours, but this one is located in a rural village (Dedham) just north of Colchester. Useful to get an idea of 'real' temperatures outside of the smoking metropolis of Colchester ;-)

Off for a (short) walk soon to experience this heat.
Might not happen again for another fifty years (or more likely next year!).

Meanwhile the neighbours are strimming hedges. Are they mad?

Edit, never go on Twitter but just went and searched Charlwood to see the rumours and there it was.

Out of interest I have just taken my infrared thermometer out to take some surface readings.

Black cars in sun: 62C
Tarmac pavement: 52C
Grass surface temperature (if you can call it grass): 54C - surprisingly higher than tarmac!
Dark painted shed exterior: 64C
Black plastic dustbin: 72C!
Shed interior is around 44C.

Difference between it and Gatwick is more of a question mark for me than the rate of rise. Guess we will see how it performs over the next few hours, met office are obviously happy enough with it at the moment.

My PWS has dropped by 0.4 degrees in the last 20 minutes, to 33.5 deg C. Is this the very leading edge of the cooler air already? Or a change in mixing? The skies are cloudless, wind direction SE.
