The one I’m looking at has 5 days of 30C and none above 35. Am I looking at the wrong run?

One thing I’ve really noticed with record breaking dry soil in the south is the coastal cooling affect is dramatically reduced. Where usually you’d travel from inland within 1/2km from the beach the temp drops considerably, but this year the rule doesn’t seem to apply.
I wonder what the science is behind this?

UKMO looks a hot run even in the shorter term. Pulling in some heat for sunday

More generally, WX summary continues the theme of hot weather across Europe for the next two weeks. It's not quite as extensive as yesterday; for Britain the really hot weather is now week 2 and only for England SE of Exeter-York while N Scotland along with most of Scandinavia and (later on) W Russia remains cool. Rain now pushed north, to N Scotland and N Scandinavia and (week 2) N Russia while the extremely dry area settles over the Channel, extending E-wards to Baltic and Ukraine week 2.

GFS Op has the LP on the Atlantic moving steadily NE bringing SW-lies then NW-lies before HP re-asserts itself 1030mb Ireland Sat 6th. This converts to a long ridge SW-NE, Atlantic to Norway, gradually pivoting W-E and moving S by the end of the week. LP develops W of Ireland and moves E-wards across Britain as a shallow trough from Sat 14th onwards though pressure remains fairly high to the S (unlike yesterday when LP was anchored over France)

GEFS dips to cool Sat 6th; then rises to v warm; good agreement between ens members on 5C above norm by Sat 13th after which a wide spread of options. The mean drops back to norm but op and control for the S produce 8-10C above though even they drop back later. No rain in the S until almost the end; for the N dry until 13th.

ECM like GFS until end of run Fri 12th when the ridge of HP across the S is interrupted by LP moving up from France

I think there's no doubt we're getting another scorcher. Most models are now onto something commencing just after the beginning of the second week of August.

Looking through the GEFS it does look rather like any hot air will be swept away just in time for my holiday starting on the 13th! Hopefully the heat will be delayed a few days as we saw with the last one.

A bit of a shift towards cooler and less settled weather around midmonth on the 6Z set. Op and control still go hot but there are a lot of cooler options dragging the mean down.

Nice to see some snow forecast in the UK. Makes a change from all the heat-chasing, anyway!

12z offers some relief to heat haters. Just a very brief warm up, then significantly cooler (though still dry).

Just three 30C days on the 12Z op, one of which is tomorrow.

Edit: so far the GEFS mean actually looks a bit higher than the 06Z mean.

Summer hasn't really began in The Lakes apart from that one daft day! Don't wish it away until we've had some please!

We had our lights on at 7pm tonight so dark and so foggy above 250m!
