Low of -9.1C, max of -3.0C. I hardly have a complete set of records but must surely be the coldest day here since Dec 2010.

An incredibly cold day today. Thick ice everywhere.

The temp at Manchester Airport is already -5C at 16:50, Rostherne -6C at 17:00.

Incredible temperatures especially given it was so so hot in the summer.

This spell will be memorable for the low temperatures here, despite the lack of snow in many parts of the region.

Like you say, pretty unusual to see such significant differences.

I think there’s a slight onshore drift East of the Pennines from the North Sea, hence the higher temps there.  The radar gives it away. Very still west of Pennines and the cold has been building.

A low of minus 10 at my house last night. Incredible given no snow cover. Sheltered dips in the higher hills around Glossop that have got snow cover will have been down at -13 or 14 I reckon.

I’ve been in Carlisle all week the frost is so incredibly thick. Like it’s snowed. Car was showing minus 9.5 this morning. Already down to -6. A memorable spell.

Chilly -6.8 at 05:30 this morning and currently -5.7. I've not seen temps like this since 2010, lots of icicles and all three ponds in the garden are now frozen and we've still got some of our snow, so quite a remarkable cold spell before Christmas imby don't you think, absolutely nothing at all to moan about not like some on here. There doesn't seem to be a winter moaning thread on the list, maybe there should be, for some. 😉

The lowest temperature for Thurrock was -5°C and it has been years since Thurrock has experienced such low temperatures and I hope it won't be the last.  I have noticed once the temperature 0C and below the air feels very fresh and I can cope with it better than I do when it is mild and wet which feels colder.

Yesterday morning, the car thermometer showed -8.5c. Put that down to it having been stationary overnight, but it bobbled between -8c and -8.5c for a while, until I was approaching Manchester.

By 8pm last night, it was -5.5c here.

It's been fascinating watching the UK temperatures fluctuate over the last week or so. Very interesting how minimum temperatures are being recorded frequently around 9am with the sun rising so late this time of year. Of course some 'favoured' locations can continue to get colder as the day progresses - like Altnaharra today. But once the sun is high enough the temperatures can shoot up, like at Woburn yesterday and today. At my local station, Rothamsted, we've got above freezing at 1pm today for the first time since Saturday.

EDIT: Just noticed that Woburn has finally got above freezing for the first time since last Tuesday (i.e. 10 days ago) if Weatheronline is correct!

Tonight could possibly be the coldest night of this classic cold spell.
Got to beat -10.5C. Is already-6.8 so if the pesky cloud's and wind can keep away its going to be close.
