But Reykjavik not the snowiest part of the island had some epic falls a few weeks ago.
The latest views show melting snow in several places but still some notable heaps on Vestmannaeyjar town centre.

That’s the “windchill temperature”. Still it’s a bit on the cold side!

That cold easterly that GFS was touting to hit UK will end up going to east Med and Cyprus with deepening LP moving east clearly by early next week to give very cold northerly and low maxes over Cyprus.  This coming weekend will be intense rain and heavy snow in the mountains that might see 1m or more by Monday after a very poor snowfree start to the first half of winter and too mild that time.  Interesting observations to watch and follow them.

From the High Summits forecast...."Model guidance is also indicating that the tropopause could dip below the summit Friday night." The summit is just 1900m!

The all time extreme minimum there since the observatory opened in 1932 is -43.9C (-47F) so that will probably be beaten.

Update on Gabrielle. 12 Feb 2023
"Thousands of people are reported to be without power in New Zealand's upper North Island as the remnants of a tropical cyclone hit the country.  Gabrielle was downgraded from a category two to a category one storm before it made landfall but is still forecast to bring severe weather. The regions of Northland and Auckland are currently under a state of emergency."

If New Zealand had its own equivalent of the TWO forum, I would imagine that its summer moaning thread would be very busy just now with all of the recent weather events which have taken place there and of course, ex-cyclone Gabrielle is yet another one to add to that list.

They are clearly coming towards the end of a very poor summer in that part of the world and because of that, I would imagine that a lot of people who are there, probably can't wait to be getting on with autumn (which they are just over two weeks away from the start of) and then seeing what the coming Southern Hemisphere winter might then bring to them.
