I expected your area to get +10cm.

We had a burst of moderate-heavy snow here in the city not long ago, but it's faded back to very light/intermittent now. Still, what's falling is definitely snow and not rain.

Different story back home, where it's been a 'wintry mix' for the last few hours.

This snowfall has turned out to be a bust, unless you have decent altitude (150m+). The western Sheffield suburbs have predictably done very well.

Down to 0.0c now under quite heavy snow,  the road and pavement are starting to cover now as well.

UKV shows some tasty snow depths but mostly over high ground.
UKV is the only one you which has sufficient resolution to pick up valleys. Possibly up to 20cm here.

At last we now have proper snow this is the first all winter ( apart from a few dusting of snow) which is usually because we usually get 7 or 8 days even in a warm winter but the snow has kept missing us. we have about 5 cm now has been snowing all day and it was settling on the grass, etc but it is now snowing very fast and drifting . The nearby road A66 was shut at 2pm and i only hope the people driving through our village are not trying to get over yad moss way which nearly reaches 2000 feet and I have seen drifting up there as high as a house.

Will post some photos tomorrow. Hoping to get at least 15 cm or more by the morning.

Moderate snow showers here moving in quickly on the fresh NE wind, beginning to settle.
The main precipitation nearly reached here and seems to be responsible for the rapid development of these showers??

Utterly ridiculous to 'pre-emptively' close the A66 during the day. A succession of vehicles would stop any snow settling on the carriageway.

Not really when you see what it can be like in bad weather. Admittedly the heavy  snow has come a bit later then forecast but its a totally white out, out there tonight. Its just like it was in 2018 there is about at least 10 cm of snow now I imagine double once you get higher. Its blowing back so quickly.

A66 -  strongly disagree -  its very exposed, the amount of snow that drifts off the surrounding fells is huge, all it needs is one vehicle to stop, and its curtains - Ive had years of experience on a similar road A686 Hartside, which is even higher. Unless you have been up there in a winter storm no-one will believe how bad it can be.

My point is that, through daylight hours, it's barely snowed. And even when it does to even a moderate/heavy rate, the busy traffic through the day prevents snow settling.

Evening onwards, different story, obviously.

Back to snow here. Hopefully for the rest of the night.

It's not heavy enough to stick, though.
