After another cold night seeing lows of around 9C the sun has been shining and temperature has risen to around 20C.

Light winds.

Compared to recent days the dew points have been closer to what you would typically expect at the time of year.

Top D.P 13C so far today.

I know that today isn't a bank holiday but it is a local public holiday here in Edinburgh which is a part of what we traditionally refer to as the "September Weekend".

In spite of that though, it's actually quite a nice, bright and sunny day here in Edinburgh with only some pieces of very high cirrus cloud around.

In addition to that, it's also pleasantly and reasonably warm here with a temperature of around 16°C.

Today has just very narrowly been confirmed as our warmest day of this month so far with a maximum temperature of 18.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

I will add though that although we are now in what should be a cooling time of year, it is still a bit early in the season for us to be getting a month in which we fail to get a single temperature of 20°C or above especially given that it was at the very beginning of this same month last year that we had our highest temperatures of that entire year, but that is the situation which we currently find ourselves in although today has still felt pleasant enough anyway in that sunshine.

In addition to that, we have had a very impressive total of 10.3 hours of sunshine at Edinburgh Gogarbank which makes today our second sunniest day of this month so far.

Finally, today's highest mean sea level pressure at Edinburgh Gogarbank during today so far is a very impressive 1030.2 mb which is the highest that it's been during this month so far.

All in all, not too bad at all for a public holiday and it is like that down south as well, I'm sure that a number of you down there may well be wishing that you had followed our lead down there with your own bank holiday had occurred today rather than at the end of August when the late summer English bank holiday usually occurs.

Currently around 14°C here in Edinburgh although the wind direction has switched around a bit now with the wind now starting to come in from off the North Sea.

An odd day. Fog was quite slow to clear and, when it did, it gave way to low cloud. At 1.30pm, the temp was a cool 14c.
Then the cloud dispersed, and within an hour we were up to 19c.

I've been here in Carvoeiro, the Algarve, for 19 days now and each day has been sunny and hot. Just the odd bank of cirrus. Maximum temperatures are 25 - 31 C right here on the coast and Minimum's down to 15 - 21 C. The light is incredible with the strong sun on the white and blue buildings.
I'm not gloating, just reporting the weather from a different place.
I fly back to Edinburgh on Thursday and it looks like my last two days could be showery. There are wildfires breaking out inland and there's been 30 mins worth of rain here since May so they could really do with a soaking.

I mentioned on this thread yesterday that the temperature here in Edinburgh hadn't yet reached 20°C during this month and that it was a bit too early in the season for us to be getting a month in which the temperature fails to reach 20°C even though this should be a cooling time of year as head towards the coming winter.

If the latest forecasts are correct though, it is looking as though the weather gods might well correct that today as the maximum temperature here according to the Met Office is forecast to reach around 21°C. We have had plenty of sunshine in recent days and that is likely to continue today as well.

I have just witnessed a lovely sunrise from my east facing bedroom and living room windows and today is starting off on a mostly bright and sunny note even though the Sun is currently hidden behind a little bit of medium level cloud. Whilst it's nice to finally be getting this sort of weather though, I would much rather have been getting that during the summer and this is now raising the question of where on Earth was this sort of weather during the summer when we were looking for it?

Still, I suppose it's better getting this weather rather late than not at all. Last night was a mild night in which the temperatures refused to drop, so last night's temperatures never really got below around 11°C here.

As I write, it's currently around 12°C here in Edinburgh with the mean sea level pressure now up to around 1032 mb.

11.0C, some patchy cloud working across from the east.
Earlier, interestingly, there were the usual contrails but the high-level ones persisted while the lower ones dispersed quickly.

Today is by far our warmest day of this month with the temperature more generally at around 22°C here in Edinburgh and even up to 23.41°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It's just incredible that we've now suddenly been thrown back into summer, especially given that we didn't actually have all that much of a summer here this year.😡

Just had to get the washing in due to a rogue drizzle shower! The radar shows some "lake effect" showers moving in and one just clipped here. It's dull and overcast as a result, but there's been a good amount of sun during the day. (And by gum, it's annoying how we get "lake effect" showers without even trying in the summer half of the year, but get a brief NE'ly in winter and they become rare as hen's teeth).

Another bright and sunny start to another morning here in Edinburgh (even more so than yesterday).

Last night was a bit cooler than the previous night though and the temperature is currently around 10°C but as the days are still slightly longer than the nights for now (that will no longer be the case by this time next week), it could well get really warm again today in that sunshine.
