Apart from SW France we are the hottest place in Europe and that make a change after they enjoyed very hot summers from 2007-2012 when we missed out completely.

Amazing heat in the short term, but I'm not buying this for next weekend?

Surely we won't get that cold?

Also, I know Weatheronline forecasts just go on the latest GFS, but where do they get the idea of "rain later" from on the 0z?

I can't see anything in the way of rain, apart from perhaps the odd thundery shower.

It just gets hotter and hotter.

First 33C I've seen on the charts for the uk in a while.

Hampshire the hottest place in N Europe on that chart - just a couple of 34s over in Hungary and Slovakia.

Just caught up with the models after a sizzling cycle ride starting at 9:30am and finishing at 11am, followed by relaxing in the garden!

I see that GFS 00z op run gave the ECM op run's version of events from last night some real consideration, but didn't want to make things as extreme to our E and NE. Meanwhile ECM's 00z op run toned down the trough there and shifted the high pressure east a bit, resulting in a fantastic run considering where we're already at

...then GFS, not wanting to be outdone, produced the 06z op run, which is less amplified, has a much weaker Scandi trough and is quite frankly an outstanding run for persistent hot weather

These sort of shifts in the hot direction just seem to keep on coming... where on Earth is this road taking us?

Somehow overlooked these in my last post:

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/MT8_London_ens.png

There's a run hitting uppers of 24°C or so for 27th July. I think that's as high as I've ever seen!

http://www.meteociel.fr/ukmo/runs/2013071300/UW144-21.GIF?13-07

UKMO has the chart of the morning as Tim posted earlier. With the Atlantic riding up the western flank and the high centred over the N. Sea that is going for a classic high-end heatwave scenario (by the way I understand that this is not a good thing for some people, but like with hurricanes, it doesn't matter whether I choose to enjoy exceptional temperatures or not - the weather does what the weather does).

These 8-10 day means show an immense belt of anomalously high heights that may well take a lot of work to break down

If nothing else hopefully this summer will finally prove that long range forecasting is total horse poo. Just about everyone was going for a terrible one.

(I've been saying all along that the pattern felt very different this year, but that was purely hit instinct/ guesswork and I didn't try to dress it up as a LRF!)

high pressure dominates the weather again through this week, although there are some subtle changes taking place. There will be lots of dry weather, and it will be warm and sunny. However, as the week progresses the high drifts north, allowing brisk northeast winds to develop in the south and these eventually blow in some cloud and possibly rain across southeastern areas.
