I recall seeing what I think was thundery rain on the rainfall radar over the Isle of Mann - a general band of rain with embedded cells, with lightning reports from the IoM.

How true will this be. Media hype for the sake of it I reckon.

How one Met office expert is convinced the heatwave is a 'blip'... and that  we're still in for a WASHOUT summer

  • Forecasters predicted decade of soaking wet  summers after climate summit

  • But Britain's longest heatwave for seven  years is set to continue next week

  • Met office predicted a cool and wet month  but UK is on course for the driest July since records began in 1910

  • But one Met Officer expert Prof Stephen  Belcher insists it's just a 'blip'

This was the 16-30 day forecast from the day they quote:

UK Outlook for Thursday 11 Jul 2013 to Thursday 25 Jul 2013:

With no particularly dominant weather type indicated for the middle part of July this period is considered, on balance, to most likely be characterised by fairly typical British summer weather. However there is a signal for drier than average conditions to prevail. As such some fine, dry and pleasant days are expected, especially to the south and east. Temperatures are then most likely to often be close to average, though conditions will feel pleasantly warm during spells of sunnier weather.

Just to point out that Stephen Belcher is Head of the Hadley Centre at the Met Office not the Department of Meteorology at Reading. As usual the Fail have got their story more than a little wrong in every respect.
