Pointless batting on it really is.

If we leave it until late first session tomorrow then get any rain Monday, it would be ridiculous. Wouldn't be the first time England have batted on too long in this situation and its cost them a result.

We're where I expected, with Cook wanting at least 500 runs in the bank and 2 days left. Even if there's some rain on Monday and they lose an hour or two that's still the thick end of 150 overs.

Unless Swann's spinning finger drops off I expect him to be key. If it's turning enough there's always Root and Peterson in reserve.... :-)

Personally I'd tell Root he has 45 minutes to get his 200 and England 600 ahead....
And it'll still be largely done and dusted by stumps...

A win by an innings and 400-odd would be good in terms of the Aussie mindset!

Holding made a good point on the commentary last night regarding 4th innings run chases at Lords. If you look at the stats there are a number of successful chases in the 300's and high 200's with just 1 to 3 wickets down implying that many more runs could have been achieved if required. Lords isn't so bad as a 4th innings place to bat. However Australia are so useless with the bat that I agree with Matty, time to end the England innings and get the Aussies in now. Maybe let Joe Root smash a few boundaries early on to get his 200, but that is just me wanting to see him get a double ton but probably best for the team just to get the Aussies straight in.

Just not in fashion these days.

The benefit to not forcing australia to follow on is that the Aussie bowlers are blowing out of their arses, they are totally knackered and hopefully confidence shot for the rest of the series. I would love the English batsmen to target Agar and slow his early career right down.

Knowing England they'll bat through the overcast, ball swinging conditions of the morning, then put the convicts into bat at lunch, just as the sun breaks through and the ball does nothing.
Storms tomorrow. Cook will cop it if weather does England out of a victory.

And they are going to continue batting!!! WTF is Cook doing????

As the Beeb says, the conditions favour putting the Aussies in immediately, given the cloudy conditions, so it seems daft England continuing to bat.

Given the potential for storms Monday (one hefty storm could deposit enough surface water on a hard outfield to wreck half the day) we absolutely categorically should have put them in for an hour last night. A tricky session where you'd have backed us to take a wicket or two against tired players who've been in the field for two days, but no. The record run chase clearly not enough for Cook. He wants to add another 100+ runs on top for no reason whatsoever, or is he putting personal milestones (Root) in front of the team goal? If so he needs his head seeing to.

Batting on this morning in cloudy, muggy conditions, with the lead we have and the forecast for sun this afternoon is stupid. Just stupid.

Ok here is a Q

If Cook continues his poor form with the bat and England keep winning, does he stay as Captain? Does he keep his place in the side but lose the captaincy or does he get dropped altogether

How long can the Aussies bat? 100 overs? Possibly. 150? Doubtful. Even with an hour this morning there's still 165 left. If 2 hours are lost to a storm that's 135.

The challenge for the Aussies is to make it tough for Roof to score his runs.

That was absolutely pathetic , if Joe Root was sent out to get 200 why the hell did he play such a daft shot, what a wasted period of time

Nasser Hussain had a real bad patch in 2000 but England won against the Windies for the first time in 30 odd years.

You don't change your captain when our team is on form and winning unless the captain is injured. It's the Aussies in a mire not England.

Poor Chris Rogers, out to an atrocious ball by Swann and didn't review it in his first innings then he shoulders a Swann armball and is cleaned bowled his 2nd innings
