Medlock Vale Weather
22 July 2013 21:01:26

Raining here right now, a blob centred near my house on radar it would seem!, but no thunder and it's not even wetting the ground much, strange to see, maybe the ground is so warm?

The Peak District storm has weakened considerably but the Nottingham main cell is spreading much further West.  Might just clip us here in Sheffield.

Wondering if the Gainsborough cell is what I can see to my East now as well.  It's South, West and East.  All around me!  No rain yet but plenty of fireworks!

There's a lovely cluster boiling away over Northern France but doesn't want to cross over the Channel. A few years ago, it would have no trouble making that trip over the Channel and we'd be guaranteed a decent night, but nowadays, it just doesn't want to do anything.

Seems I may have to be prepared to be disappointed. Should be used to it by now as the Midlands becomes the new South East in terms of storm activity.

Saw a flash ten minutes ago from the top of a cell to my South East. There is nothing remotely near me on the radar. Those cells must be high over the midlands!

Some cooler air now and a few big spots of rain.  Still plenty of electrical activity coming from all directions.  Rain coming heavier now as I type.  Big thunder too!  Going to watch from my bedroom window.  Look out you lot to the North of me, it's heading your way and it's not dying out.

Down here I'm waiting to see whether the swathe of cloud coming in from the west becomes the breeding ground for a lot of thundery activity within the next few hours. That's what the Met Office online forecast maps show, with some support from NAE, but none from WRF, which doesn't get things going until some 5 hours later.

Certainly looked ominous out there as the last of the daylight faded. The clouds actually looked a bit like mammatus but were a lot more subdued than the genuine article. It sure does feel clammy as well!

There's a small cell not far NW of here now, but it's not electrified... yet.

In the Channel, south of Penzance, a thin line of showers has materialised. According to those Met Office charts, that's what should develop into a large mass of convection that covers Central-Southern England by around midnight!

I haven't really been following the forecasts or charts as I am a winter poster () but I presume from your post James that there is a renewed risk of storms overnight for our region?

Another line of cells has now developed South of Torquay in the English Channel. If it holds together this is our big chance here in Somerset for later tonight as it develops, electrifies and trundles NNE
