The models seem less keen to prolong the proper heat into the weekend now. I really hope that isn't it for summer weather - these past few weeks have been fantastic and I don't want to be shivering in 20C maxes through August.

BTW I think those DP values are way too high. Looking at the offical values it never got above about 20C yesterday. E.g. at Charlwood it maxed at 19.9C in the morning: http://www.ogimet.com/cgi-bin/gsynres?lang=en&ind=03769&decoded=yes&ndays=2&ano=2013&mes=07&day=24&hora=18

Received data from my home in West Ewell which was lovely warm 20.9C to 31.8C max this afternoon and my local Epsom weather station recorded amazing 22.7C dp.  Is that good for you Matty?

Re the highest ever DP in the UK I think July 1983 is a candidate. Supposedly Shannon airport in Ireland recorded a DP of 24C, and the highest for the UK I could find with a brief search was 22C at Yeovil on July 14.

Surprisingly the Aug 2003 spell, which I remember as being rather humid, only had DPs around 19C even in the hottest areas.

No sign of any let up in the heat here. 24c at 11.30am, which is the highest at this time of day during this whole warm spell.

Warm spell well and truly over here. Hasn't reached 20C since Friday morning with the wind constantly coming from the worst possible direction (SE). Since late afternoon on Monday it has been utterly execrable with constant cloud, fog, murk and lots of rain. The wettest spell since the pre-Christmas horror show and there is no sign of this filth clearing until at least Friday

An absolutely disgusting week of weather that is every bit as bad as the worst weeks of the nightmare that was summer 2012. I would say it remains to be seen whether this is just a blip but the reality is that 4th-19th July was more of a blip in a summer that has seen mediocre conditions for the majority of the time so far.

MetO has now removed the reference to it becoming hot in the SE before Saturday's thunderstorms arrive:

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Sunny intervals but also scattered showers, mainly at the weekend, some heavy with a chance of thunder. Staying very warm and humid.

Odd temp fluctuation here - maxed at just over 25C around 3pm, then dropped away. Now shot up to 27C! Just waiting for the next Manston METAR to update, to see if they show a rise too (currently 25C from the 16:20 report)

He can't function properly either when the air is very dry/cold or hot/humid. He got taken to hospital a few times during that exceptional cold March due to the sheer dryness of the continental air - it seemed to dry his lungs out too much. He says he enjoys Spring and Autumn the best as that's when he feels most healthy.

All the best to you John - can't imagine what a collapsed lung feels like. Hope your recovery is swift

Now then... just popped on here to report that my local sunshine total for July has just exceeded 300 hours, beating 2006's 297.5 hours, which was my previous record for all years back to 2005.

My sunshine values are somewhat approximate but often match the official regional recordings fairly well. What's more, there's still enough of the month left for the total to keep on climbing, so it should be notably above 300 in the end - enough so to give reasonably high confidence that it's gone through that impressive benchmark .

Also worth noting that it's still 18°C outside despite 'only' maxing at 24°C today.
