No certainty we'll avoid the follow-on - and if we don't then the Aussies could still win this despite rain tomorrow/Monday ......

Decent enough from England at times

Only problem with rain coming to the rescue is that sometimes it doesnt rain that much and you get quite a bit of play with heavy cloud cover favouring swing bowling and wicket taking.

Assuming Australia has a lead of 175-ish and 3-4 hours are lost to the weather, the best Clark could do is get a quick 150 and leave England two and a half sessions to bat.

England need to get these 33 runs knocked off in the morning and any runs after that takes up time and puts pressure back on the Aussies. If we get knocked over for a few runs and follow on could be tricky even with the weather around.

Could Clarke try something totally left of field to try and to force a result. Say England reach the follow on target but only just and Australia lead by say 190ish could Clarke send his batsmen out to knock a few token runs and then declare on say 5 or 6 and set England say 200 to win the game, basically try and reduce it to an all or nothing result for Australia, afterall a draw won't do.

Just in passing, the follow-on target is 328, so at the start of play it was another 34 needed, not 33. 🙂

Follow on saved.

Match drawn barring something bizarre - assuming the predicted rain takes out 2 sessions or more.

A good morning for England thus far. Not only have they saved the follow on but they have taken off 39 more runs from the follow on target, scored freely, eating time up and frustrating the Aussies.

yes, good work this morning. I think Broad and Prior did the right thing in playing positively - had its risks but if we'd have tried to poke around and eke out the runs needed, we'd have got out anyway.

INteresting that Warner is opening witb Rogers now.. Aussies want quick runs, they will know weather is a limiting factor

Well worth a read:

The Sky cricket commentary team is atrocious. Shame cause the coverage is excellent.

In fact, this looks like ending up as an awful forecast. I can't see more than an hour's interruption at most as the rain has dissipated massively as it approaches Manchester.

Will be almost a full day's cricket.
