Had a heavy sleet wet snow shower this morning and another one around 1 ish this afternoon

Huge temerpature drop in the showers from 6C down to 2C. Dew point around freezing.

I think without doubt this is one of the hardest situs I've ever come across. Because its basically 95% rain, but I think there will be some snow down to lower levels. But forecasting it will be an absolute nightmare. Indeed for NE england I am currently thinking of a rain to snow to rain event. I'll try and do one of my snow distribution forecast maps tonight when the 12zs are out.

I think this snow will fall on wednesday evening or night. Areas just south of london imo most at risk.

In the last few years I've started to appreciate the importance of dp to snow sublimation - in fact it's probably more important than absolute temp both for falling and surviving snow cover.

Had a very slight covering here first thing this morning, but it soon melted in the sun, looked like a mixture of hail and snow had falled during the early hours - an icy mix for sure. I drove over the hills to Yorkshire today and there was a good inch or so along the highest parts of the M62 motorway above 300m.
