Holy bartlett, you can see the -15C isotherm scraping shetland on the ECM. Its unfortunate it won't come off, but in my lifetime I don't think Ive actually ever seen a neg 15 before (I mean at 0 hours!). Last march came pretty dam close though.

Oh incidently, does anyone know the lowest uppers ever recorded in the UK? I think as far as full thicknesses go it was in the late 490s, but what about 850s?

I rate the chance of this cold snap of circa 7th December around 60% given current model output.  One recalls last December, a projected screaming easterly by the ECM which never came about, and it was in a relatively reasonable timeframe, not FI.  Forgive me for not being able to recall the date/details etc.

I dont like this 18z run, fortunately though, i dont buy into it, another over done low on the GFS 18z in my opinion, ironically though, it could give an almighty blizzard for parts of Scotland.

Rubbish ridging into GL behind the low compared to the 12z, this is a fail.

18z looking good for the northerly blast so far, hope that dart board low stays away from Aberdeen till I get back from Norway... Another heart in mouth landing potentially beckons...

On about the 8th December 2012 amongst several other good model outputs ECM issued a model forecastt out to +240 that was pure and perfect if you like cold/snowy weather.

Alas, it turned out to be 3 days of dry, frosty weather and probably the worst let down in the TWO internet age.

I think the pub run has been on the Stella this evening LOL.

Low resolution ends with a very high possibility of an 87 or 91 style Easterly though, some serious hurdles to get through for that of course but the chart of the winter so far
