Manged a few heavy rain showers and of course that hail shower early in the afternoon.

10mm overnight plus 4mm today makes for 14mm as the event total - more than I used to consider a heavy rain event (10mm or so), but that was back in drier times when it rarely ever managed more than that in a day.

Kudos for NS regarding the showers - they were less widespread inland than the Met Office charts predicted.

Looks like there will be some more tonight and tomorrow morning, but not that many.

Could be a spell of rain Sunday night too, but moderate at best and not lasting too long.

All in all a period of gradual recovery until Tuesday's rain and possible wind event.

Whilst this Winter so far has been incredibly wet Autumn 2000 pips it to the post as Kev Brads says - it had the worst floods since March 1947. In my personal records it rained nearly every day here from mid September until mid December, basically into early Winter.

I showed a relative pictures of the Ouse in York and how bad the flooding was in Autumn 2000, yet they couldn't remember the floods even though they lived there at the time lol - I guess it shows some people have short memories, not surprising with our varied topsy turvy climate!

But I remember autumn 2000 and how wet it was. I did a bit of travelling into Yarksher with my job and couldn't believe the scale of some of the flooding north of Bradford & Leeds.

I think with the advent of social media and the internet itself we hear far more about weather events than ever not just here but worldwide, sure these floods this Winter have been bad, no question.

Back in Autumn 2000 80% of households did not have the internet...... so we didn't hear/know as many places that were flooded. Back then I had the internet on good old dial up and followed the events, probably why I can remember it now.

In 2014 we have twitter, facebook and more than one 24 hour news channel. Spreading the word is much faster and gives a weather event a greater impact.

Still pretty windy here in Brighton at approx 40-45 mph. Highest winds accompanied heavy rain at approx 7pm when we had gusts over 60mph
