Caught the storm that rolled in on the coast at Brighton about 1am.
I'm about 12 miles north and heard it before I saw it. Quite a lot of booming thunder and when I went to the front of the house the whole sky was lit up with dozens and dozens CC & CG.
Best storm I've seen here for many a year. Lasted about 1½ hrs with lots of frequent flashes. Eerily no rain until about 40 mins in, so was nice watching it roll in sitting in a refreshing breeze. To my west there was a decent storm at a distance which was heavily affecting Gatwick as I watched a number of planes go-around.
I'd suggest flashes every 5 to 10 seconds. Rain was extremely hard so had to retreat indoors. Not sure of rainfall p/h but it dropped 12.8mm in the 15 to 20 mins it was raining for.
Wasn't particularly expecting storms tonight, so wasn't set up photography wise but grabbed a few. (mostly out of focus or over exposed)
Still haven't worked out how to upload or add pictures to the post, so you can find them here.
You can see the aircraft landing at Gatwick getting pretty close to it all. And then in one of the shots, you will see the moon emerging from behind the cloud, whilst massive forked lighting is going off to the left hand side. (never seen that before)
*Edit. Bizarrely whilst typing this, things have kicked off again to my North (but never heard anything go overhead)
