Woken by lovely storm here currently in Welwyn Garden City, flashes every 10-15 seconds, lots of C to C in all directions. Positively surrounded!

Rain started about 10 minutes ago with a proper cloudburst lasting a couple of minutes - I've never seen my cats run so fast back into the house, caused a pile up by the cat flap!

Just been woken by a few cracks of thunders and some lightning, I presume the very edge of what Dougie has & tbh i hope i am only on the edge coz it sounds big !

Brilliant wow, one and two as one shower in 2 phases, loud cracking booming thunder, cc and cg's plenty of them - more of this right now especially near my East and ENE- heading right over just like a short while ago then and now it was very torrential heavy rain and hailstones as well quit a powerful T-storm in E Central London and my Forest Gate/ Leytonstone S off Wantead Park area.

😃💦👓.
Climate is warming up, Scotland and N Ireland and North England still often gets some Winter frost, ice and snow, November to March, but the SE and South UK including S Central England and Wales, together with the West and North through the year, they sometimes get more rain than London and S SE England, where some longer dry fine spells without much heavy rain is seen every year.

The North Atlantic Sea often gets some much Colder Wintry conditions from November to March Months, and Mild SW and South winds tend to be more frequent over the East and SE of North Atlantic Sea, as the Azores High tends to stay in charge.

With this warmth and heat, the Central and South UK has become mostly free of snow and frost.

Thanks POD & Dougie!

Still lots of intracloud lightning visible to the south & east, occasionally overhead, rain down to drizzle & a few plops now (as recorded by my dog-o-meter; let out for quick wee just now, coat damp but not soaked). Barely any thunder even with overhead strikes. Great views of lower cloud brought into sharp relief by lightning above.

I've been lurking here since the thunder snow over a decade ago & been registered for a fair few years, I thought I'd better pop in properly, what better way to start than with a nice bit of a thunderstorm!

Skies breaking up but the cracking lightning storm has now moved out of my area to the East and NE (Essex).
That was expected.

Now for Friday evening night and Saturday's hot sunny spells and thundery showers I am thinking will either hit or miss my part of London East Central.

At one point the storm that has just passed made it feel quite a close cg hit and the bang was big- preceded by a VRAM sound just a few metres away!. Then lightning cg hit and loud crackling bang!.

It is still breezy right now- lightning over NE Of my area.

Caught the storm that rolled in on the coast at Brighton about 1am.

I'm about 12 miles north and heard it before I saw it. Quite a lot of booming thunder and when I went to the front of the house the whole sky was lit up with dozens and dozens CC & CG.

Best storm I've seen here for many a year. Lasted about 1½ hrs with lots of frequent flashes. Eerily no rain until about 40 mins in, so was nice watching it roll in sitting in a refreshing breeze. To my west there was a decent storm at a distance which was heavily affecting Gatwick as I watched a number of planes go-around.

I'd suggest flashes every 5 to 10 seconds. Rain was extremely hard so had to retreat indoors. Not sure of rainfall p/h but it dropped 12.8mm in the 15 to 20 mins it was raining for.

Wasn't particularly expecting storms tonight, so wasn't set up photography wise but grabbed a few. (mostly out of focus or over exposed)

Still haven't worked out how to upload or add pictures to the post, so you can find them here.

You can see the aircraft landing at Gatwick getting pretty close to it all. And then in one of the shots, you will see the moon emerging from behind the cloud, whilst massive forked lighting is going off to the left hand side. (never seen that before)

*Edit. Bizarrely whilst typing this, things have kicked off again to my North (but never heard anything go overhead)

So frustrating here close to Birmingham. You could see the lightning from the south and some impressive displays and then BAM, it fizzled out right close to here. Such a shame as the initial lightning was spectacular. Very pink in nature.

Wow, Wx Severe TSTSTM Isolated Extensive wide Very Loud Storm and Very Torrential Heavy Rain downpour.

Lots of Lightning and massive large CG Storm lightning hits very frequentive.

The size is small but I imagine it is crossed right across me with it moving NE from my SW, now rain stopping.

One particular TSTSTM hit with about four forks CG top top to bottom.

Great fun 15 minutes I think - more CG and flashes all around!!!.😆💦

As expected, the Folkestone Rain Deflector is being at its maximum efficiency as it all passes by to my west but that was forecast by the models anyway. Looks like my next chance saloon for this location is Saturday afternoon but even I'm not feeling that one. We shall see.

Wow, if that was the starter! Fabulous light show at about 1.50am, managed to record a fair bit so will upload later. The impressive thing for me was not the amount lightning going on but the aggressiveness of the cracks of thunder, real air splitting crackles. Let's hope tonight provides more of the same.

Felt like in Oak Lawn, Chicago normal humid morning after overnight storms with high dewpoints and humidity.

What a spectacular night! Didn't look like much on the radar but boy. Not much rain but lightning every few seconds between 1:15 and 3 am. Our view across Reigate really paid off last night as my wife and I opened our curtains, we're joined by our 6 yo daughter and watched bright blue ground strikes, golden cloud crawlers (we were naming them) and the most amazing light show I've seen here for years. Even when it cleared north and the stars came out behind the light show continued as it drifted north over London, splitting into two with the main activity heading up just east of centre.

God I need sleep. The idea that tonight could still be the main event is one to savour. I'm already happy if we get missed tonight though.

A good 5 hours of storms here in Ashington last night, the lightning display over the downs was amazing, had 3 small power cuts as well.

Hardly any rain though and even at 4am this morning it was still 20 degrees, so the storms havnt cleared the air

I undeerstand more are expected this afteroon and could be even worse than last nights !!
