Just saw the weather for the week ahead - colder until NYE and then milder for a day then colder for a day then milder again!??

Brief spells of both!

Have the BBC caught Maddenitis? The current BBC site headline:

Cold weather: Record 2014 freeze for England, Wales and Northern Ireland

Is it just me who finds that headline misleading and a tad sensational? Yes it's a record in that it's the coldest night so far of 2014, but nowhere near a record for either the date or the month or all time so why the hysteria? There was bound to be one at some point - I guess when it gets down to a minimum of +4.8C at Aviemore on Jan 3rd 2015 we'll see 'Record lows in Scotland - coldest night of 2015 so far'?
I thought not.

Come on BBC, don't stoop to 'their' level please.

Yes, that is what I am saying. There was never a forecast from the MET office that gave a firm prediction on cold. The colder option was always an outlier, with mild the preferred option😊

Anyway, this afternoons update offers a cold option on the table once again.

Lets see if it quickly gets removed should the signal wane during the coming days:

At the end of the month there are signs of a colder, possibly more settled, spell of weather developing, but confidence on this is low at present. Updated at: 1459 on Tue 30 Dec 2014

Could just be nothing more than a UK high following some zonal cr4p at this stage. Looks the less likely possibility at the moment anyway.

Anyone watching World's Scariest Weather? It's a top ten countdown of the world's worst ever weather events. At number one is the Japanese Tsunami; absolutely nothing to do with the weather at all.

Brett talks of S.S. Warming to occur in his MO for N. America - How will this affect our weather and will it bring an end to weeks of zonal westerly winds and 12c by day and 10c by night!?

A very cold period in N America suggests the SSW won't be in the right place for us...

I'm going to suggest to Brian that SSW and all variations of it are added to the banned words

Some of you are obsessed with something you hadn't even heard of a couple of years ago. What happened to melanie whatever it was from a year or two back that was the trendy word then?
