Or...a rather wonderful goal by Tuncay!

Goddamit. Got out of jail again. A good 30% off what's necessary though. Not often (if I'm being honest) a Man Utd bore me, but this lot are dull.

Ref bottles it in United game. What a depressingly familiar headline.

Second bookable offence for Chuckle Brother senior. But of course he can't be booked because he had already been booked. The more I look at it the more I think it should be a straight red.

How does he get away with it, an awful footballer IMO

I cannot believe how dreadful Jones was today. I've never been a fan of his, but today - even by his normal standards - he was woeful and showed absolutely no interest in the game. Many better teams (and with more capable forwards) than Stoke have yet to play United. Many better teams will score more goals too.

Arsenal lead 1-0 against 10 man City , Fabregas misses a penalty which could well prove crucial

3-0 now, points in the bag, yes against 10 men for a large part, who cares, rules are rules

Good win by Arsenal - at a canter by the end. I continue to remain unimpressed by Citeh.

Good win by Liverpool. Woy's job is probably safe for another week.

I beg to differ Brian, Arsenal have a bigger squad this year, look at the last couple of years they have been right in the mix with only 5 or 6 games to go

Could be dangerous to right them off just yet, for them they have had a nightmare start to the season and the problems off the field have probably led to some of the performances off it. But I think that period is over now and they will only get stronger this season and yet they are only second, level with Arsenal and Citeh. The way some of the press have discussed their start you would think they were.........................Liverpool or something.

The big question, for Liverpool fans at least, is when was Pellegrini contacted?

Question I have is: why the [censored]are we reputedly pursuing this distinclty average manager?

He did a fairly decent job at Villareal, before moving to Madrid and making a total arse of things, despite signing Kaka, Ronaldo, Benzema, etc.

A new manager with severely limited funds will not be able to make Liverpool competitive again. Given current market rates, the squad needs probably £150m+ spending on it to completely overhaul it. Failing that, we must get used to battling for mid-table mediocrity with teams like Birmingham, Everton and Fulham - and then watch our global brand diminish accordingly as we die a slow death.

I don't know much about him, but all can see is the same mistake being made over and over and over by Liverpool and their managers - paying over the odds for ordinary players (or players with 'potential') who turn out to be no better than what was already there (who we've sold for a song or released on a free), and the whole cycle starts again.

As a club, Liverpool have wasted millions and millions in this precise manner, going right back to Souness' days. Houllier took it to a whole new level, though, before Benitez ripped the not-good-enough Houllier team apart and replaced it with his own not-good-enough team.

Taking his whole tenure into account, Benitez actually had a fairly low net spend per season - but that was only because he was forced to make a net profit in his last 2 seasons. One thing I will say in Benitez' defence is that he at least tried to go for quality, but was turned down and had to settle for distinctly second best. He had deals all but sewn up for Simao and/or Alves for around £12m each, but they were blocked (by Parry IIRC) and we ended up with Jermaine sodding Pennant, who we sold at a loss cos he was crap, and spent more still on a replacement. Short-termist penny-pinching is counter-productive

Oh pluuuueeease, not again. United to be given £100 million. Fine, but Carrick + cash for Bale? How many times will this be trotted out over the coming months. Now, apparently, SAF is considering £30 million + Carrick for Bale. That is not even remotely enough.

The problem is, from Tottenham's standpoint, Carrick has a value of precisely zero. Where would they play him. Instead of Huddlestone? Sandro? I think not. He might scrape in ahead of Palacios at this moment in time, but I expect Wilson's dip in form to eventually be reversed.
