I would say about 3/10 - 4/10
Ive had frost, ive seen snow, ive seen snow stick )and hang around for a few days - albeit a dusting, but looked nice) and its been pretty cold during the day (today especially raw in the dampness)
IMBY we dont usually get that much snow, so my take on cold spell usually goes on how much enjoyment i get from photos from other people in their BY's posted on here and other forums. Last year although we didnt really get a winter, seeing what scotlands mountains got was a little relief. I also saw snow on some mountains in the Lakes (fairfield horseshoe - 1-2feet off snow and white out conditions) on a trip there last Feb.
Seeing the photos from Sheffied was really interesting, and bumped up the cold spell a notch or two.
Like ive said before - 2013 was historic for winter and in some ways was better than 2009 and 2010, as it went on so long with lots of varieties of snowfalls in some unusual places. Blizzards were common in areas that snowfall is usually rare. During that year IMBY we got no more than say 5-6 cms in any fall, but mostly was dustings, whereas in other places people got pastings.
I think there is a delusion on here that if you dont get a 6" snowfall in a winter - its a poor winter. Snowfalls of that size are very rare, and usually are a 1 in 10 yr event for most of us. Where they do occur they are usually in a hillier range - or next to one. Sheffield today highlights this point.
If you live in the south - these odds are reduced even further - but then you get better summers, so theres the trade off.
