Seeing that prevernal spring is now upon us, the days are getting longer, sun feels warmer, birds are building nest's, daffodils are up (some in flower), bluebells are too growing through, etc etc. Can we have a thread to discuss & share all things spring related? 

Today with gorgeous sunshine and light winds we managed 10C. 

I don't see why it will be a problem, the winter thread pop's up in summer 

With all this high pressure around i think this little guy will probably have a few more days of early season sun bathing to do...

on the subject sunbathing i would imagine some of Portsmouth's hardiest would have been bathing at Southsea's Hot walls today

Took a walk with some friends today and planted a few trees on some land that they have purchased on the North Downs, north of Charing. Nature is slowly but surely waking up. If you kick the decaying autumn leafs out of the way there is a 2cm carpet of bluebell shoots already surging up towards the new light. 

Got back from the French Alps yesterday and immediately felt the warmth in the sun in the Chilterns today. Huge contrast for me in the space of 24 hours. Enjoyed the snow last week but the sun felt great today. Roll on summer! 

Snowdrops are appearing through lying snow here, it's always astonishing how they seem to be able to progress even under snow - almost always opening the second week of Feb, which suggests daylength is as important as temperature.

Was a gorgeous day yesterday. Wall to wall sunshine with no breeze at all. Stood out watching my lad's football game you could feel the warmth of the sun. It's a superb feeling after a winter that's had too many colder spells in it for my liking. Winter isn't over yet, but it's great knowing that we've reached that stage now where the sun can get to work on the day under the right conditions 

Yesterday was a real tonic.  I was expecting gloom but the day was bright then sunny.  The light was almost springlike and there was a fair bit of song from our feathered friends.  A great day to be out and about in the fresh air!

Yesterday was beautiful up here in the north east and looks set to be even better today, 11 or 12 certainly possible.

BBC forecast this morning did mention some places possibly as high as 14C in the E/NE. 

I. too, have noticed how it felt and looked positively spring-like yesterday as temperatures peaked at 8.3 C.

There is a bit more cloud about today as well as there being a bit of a breeze but it's also dried up a lot, even the dampness is going away from the top soil.

EDIT: Just popped out to get some bits and the February sun felt lush on the face. Yep, I'm ready to slam the door shut on Winter. I used to dread Spring because it signified the beginning of a long and hot tomato growing season but now I'm a "free man", I welcome "proper" Spring with open arms.

Good idea for a thread where we can post all our excitement as we head towards and beyond March! Yesterday and today we reached between 9-10c with wall to wall sunshine and the strength of the sun in the slight warm breeze made it feel so good especially after the cold spell!

I got some pictures on the 24th January but didn't bother posting them as they were Daffodils and Crocus but here they are.

Took a walk down the hill to Rock Walk this afternoon. I wasn't expecting it to be a nice day as meto had said cloudy but it was clear blue skies again so managed to find some time around 3:30pm this afternoon to get a few pics.

I found these flowers growing on the cliffside:

And there are also some other very beautiful flowers with lots of new one's budding that always start to come out late winter early spring but I don't know what they are, here is a picture

This next picture is of some big buds with one of the just beginning to open on a Magnolia tree:

This was the last picture I took today, you can see a red haze just above the hills that was there all afternoon, (it was out at sea too) the sun was lighting it up red but it became better when the sun set:

The sun will get stronger day by day now so definitely looking forward to more of these pleasant walks.

Gloriously warm afternoon here again today. Wanted to start the lawnmower! 

Today was a carbon copy of yesterday. Clear blue skies and felt lovely in the sun. Makes you really appreciate that it's downhill from here on as far as winter is concerned. It may have a sting in it's tail, but ultimately the clock is ticking, the days are drawing out, and spring is on the horizon.

If October and November are classed as autumn months why is February a winter month? 

After reading in the model output about peoples thoughts of when when it becomes to late to have laying lasting snow I started thinking...

So I was just pondering over this and realised that the strength of the sun, the energy & heat it gives off, are the same in mid February as they are in mid October. 

If down here it snowed in late October by some freak happening I doubt it would stick around long.

I suppose the sea temperatures are much colder in February then October, but that said, october sea temperatures are also warmer then early June... A summer month.
