A selection of GFS high defintion charts have been added to the Chart viewer. These are:

The charts are split into UK north and south.

On the Chart viewer select High definition + - to access.

As good as anything I've seen on the web, in fact better when factoring in the level of zoom on offer

I take it the isolines on the wind charts are for the mean speeds and the individual numbers are the gusts?

Looking at tomorrow, you can see a conundrum I'm facing when anticipating conditions across The Solent; winds are considerably lighter to the SE of the region thanks to a weak anticyclone and stronger to the west due to a shortwave low - both with some uncertainty regarding their exact positions.

No chart available for the selected hour. Many charts start at 3 hours ahead, so if you have 0 hours selected try stepping forward or selecting a later hour.

These high-res charts will be handy in that respect

On the 850hPa and thickness charts the contours and shading represent the 850hPa temps and the individual numbers are thickness values.

Nice work Brian. Will it be possible to the same for precipitation (or are the data not available)?

Either way it is a very useful addition with nice clear charts, thanks.

I might be being a total dunce here this morning, while I do think the charts look great and how that would make for a powerful addition to my own forecasting skills, but can I ask on how I could move that 3 hourly grid to one side so that I can see the whole chart? (The south east - the bit I want the most - gets hidden by that grid).

Those high definition charts could prove useful during the coming Autumn, winter.

Thanks Brian.

A minor quibble though, thanks for the new charts Brian

UK, UK south, UK north
5d max temp
5d min temp
10d max temp
10d min temp
5d precip total
10d precip total

On the Chart viewer select HD aggregate + - to access.

I've not yet scheduled the updates for these on the server but will try to have done within the next 24 hours.

Aggregated precipitation perhaps the most useful. Here's the 10 day view from today's GFS6z:

The new aggregated charts seem to be updating ok. They are generated a little later once the GFS downloads and other charts are complete.

Generated a few charts using GFS data at 0.1deg x 0.1deg which is significantly higher than the ones currently available on the site. Not yet sure whether I'll be scheduling these in.
