Possibly the worst forecast event of recent times. Ferguson is getting pelters on Twitter as if it's his fault. I'm loving it. Any day it doesn't rain is a good one. 

Hardly....the forecasts I saw were VERY keen to stress that these storms could be up to 200 miles east or west of where they were forecast at any given time.

"Uncertainty" was the buzz word, I thought?

Perhaps James "Expected between 1700 0nwards for s/England A level 1 has been issues for large hail.

"Over England, storms may be elevated due to a colder boundary layer. Excessive precipitation is expected to be the main threat, but isolated large hail cannot be ruled out, especially in eastern England.

Spotted the more substantial convection erupting well east of the stuff I was referring to earlier... that may only manage to clip the far-eastern reaches of England unless it gets caught up in the circulation around the LP and heads WNW.

Not convinced the stuff well south of the IOW will hold together right the way across The Channel, but we'll see.

I have featureless low cloud here now... this has become one of what I call 'god fudge the weather' days. You can guess what fudge has replaced. It's a good thing yesterday was glorious (until 2pm at least), it's so dreary here today.

Apologies for being more irritable than usual today - I've been up at 5:30 each day this week to put together forecasts for interests in The Solent. I'm looking forward to a bright, fresh weekend with some deep sleep at night!

Philip Hammond on Radio 5 just now saying that those storms in NE France would affect the SE and London area. Can't really see it myself.

In my view they're making a beeline for Kent. We'll see later this evening, anyway!

I would expect them to shift sightly more to the west of north so may be Kent clippers, but to affect the London area they would have to to a handbrake turn to the west. As you say we'll see!

Looks pretty impressive over the channel. Will it make over ??

Well, a tendril from it has - the 17:!5 radar shows landfall just north of Dover.

Whether it's just the first drop of many or whether that's as close as it gets remains to be seen - I still fancy that Kent will see some more rain from this though!

Skies darkened rapidly, and rain arrived again. I thought I saw a flash of lightning out the corner of my eye, but no sound of thunder....
