Manure 0-0 Chelski. Not too drab but clear to see two sides low on confidence. Lots of chances missed - Rooney once again looking a spent force.

Not a bad performance from Man U per sé, but questions must be asked of why LVG sold Van Persie and Hernandez but kept Rooney?

Today's result was the sort of result you have to grind out every season. It wasn't pretty but Spurs deserved the victory. The ref generally had a good match apart from an imbecilic booking given to Alli in the first half.

Ok. 0-2. Better than I feared, especially at HT, Did alright until conceding a poor goal then the Gooners were all over us.

Half the games gone, halfway to that important 40 point mark. Getting something out of Leicester away would be a bonus, then two games at home in four days we really need to win - Hammers then Norwich.

It would have been better for Man U to lose yesterday, now they are probably stuck with the Dutchman and Maureen will not wait forever.

Unfortunately, Pavel Srnicek didn't recover from his sudden cardiac arrest. RIP to a great goalkeeper  Best remembered playing for Newcastle of course, but he had a good spell a Sheff Wed too, among others.

If I were a Man Utd fan, God forbid, then I'd look no further than Guardiola, and I'd hope the club would pull out all the stops to attract him to the job. I think he'd suit the Premier League down to the ground, and he'd be a massive coup for the club, with Chelsea and Man City sniffing around as well.

The other candidates I'm not so sure about. There's Diego Simeone, who is doing a great job at Atletico Madrid, but his style is very containing, and not exactly full of swashbuckling attacking entertainent, which has been the problem for Man Utd this season. To back this up, just look at the stats for Atletico this season...

Atl Madrid P2: Pl16 W11 D2 L3 F22 A8 GD14 Pts35

That's not even 1.5 goals a game scored, and although their defensive record is second to none in that league, I don't think Man Utd fans are after 1-0 wins, as a) it's not entertaining, and b) is their team capable of regular clean sheets right now?

I do think Simeone's style is a deliberate counter to the more fluid, goal-happy tactics of Barca and Real Madrid, and it's mighty effective, but it's a big risk to assume it would translate successfully to the Premier League.

The other candidate is Ryan Giggs, but understandably there are big questions marks over his lack of experience, and his underwhelming spell as caretaker boss a few years ago did him no favours. He'd be a very popular choice, but I feel he'd need management experience at a smaller club elsewhere before taking on such a big responsibility as Man Utd boss.

Love Sterling's new hair-do. Obviously modeled after his hero Jason 'Pineapple' Lee. Isn't as good a player as Lee though.

Surprisingly good game tonight. Obviously Sunderland are pretty much doomed after tonight's result.

As for the Dippers, a positive result in more ways than one. Two or three more wins and they should be safe.

Good result for Liverpool though, you're right 'Merc, probably safe now

Sunderland on the other hand  They deserve to go down, them and Villa. Dreadful teams

I see Sam Allardyce is whingeing following Sunderland's 0-1 defeat yesterday, saying that Liverpool won by a "lucky goal."
This reminded me of a response from manager Kenny Dalglish in a post-match interview some years back following a similar result and another "lucky goal"  ...."It was better than theirs"

but the same old issues remain - toothlesness in front of goal. We totally nullified them (65% possession) and had 25 attempts at goal. Yet we could only win 1-0, precarious to say the least.

Sturridge back in training; wonder how long his next comeback will last? Odds-on favourite at the moment is twisting his ankle as he's walking out of the tunnel before the game.

Really frustrating seeing the points we threw away against Newcastle, West Brom & Watford.

In each of the last five seasons, the team with the best GD going into New Year's Eve went on to win the league.
