We rarely thrash a side 4. 5 or 6 , we seem to get infront and play about.....then someone pulls a goal back and themn we are in trouble.

They should never have let Van Persie go, IMO. For me, he was their best player, or certainly one of them, when Man Utd last won the title in SAF's final season as manager.

It was down to blind luck they got a full campaign out of the old crock. I'm not referring to Baconface either.

It would have been better for Man U to lose yesterday, now they are probably stuck with the Dutchman and Maureen will not wait forever.

Unfortunately, Pavel Srnicek didn't recover from his sudden cardiac arrest. RIP to a great goalkeeper  Best remembered playing for Newcastle of course, but he had a good spell a Sheff Wed too, among others.

Really sad news that Pavel Srnicek has died, following a heart attack whilst out jogging.

If I was a Man Utd fan, my only concern about Mourinho would be how long he was likely to stay at the club for, assuming LVG either resigns or is sacked later in the season. I have heard it said that Mourinho has never stayed at a club he's managed for all that long, even going back to his Porto days before his first spell at Stamford Bridge.

So sad. I recall the same thing tragically happened to a guy who was one of my teachers at high school back at Xmas 1997, only a few months after I left school. He was only in his mid-40s IIRC.

I agree. There's no denying his management qualities, even with the Chelsea decline, but the guy seems to attract controversy wherever he goes, and like you say, I'd be concerned over his longevity down the line.

If I were a Man Utd fan, God forbid, then I'd look no further than Guardiola, and I'd hope the club would pull out all the stops to attract him to the job. I think he'd suit the Premier League down to the ground, and he'd be a massive coup for the club, with Chelsea and Man City sniffing around as well.

The other candidates I'm not so sure about. There's Diego Simeone, who is doing a great job at Atletico Madrid, but his style is very containing, and not exactly full of swashbuckling attacking entertainent, which has been the problem for Man Utd this season. To back this up, just look at the stats for Atletico this season...

That's not even 1.5 goals a game scored, and although their defensive record is second to none in that league, I don't think Man Utd fans are after 1-0 wins, as a) it's not entertaining, and b) is their team capable of regular clean sheets right now?

I do think Simeone's style is a deliberate counter to the more fluid, goal-happy tactics of Barca and Real Madrid, and it's mighty effective, but it's a big risk to assume it would translate successfully to the Premier League.

The other candidate is Ryan Giggs, but understandably there are big questions marks over his lack of experience, and his underwhelming spell as caretaker boss a few years ago did him no favours. He'd be a very popular choice, but I feel he'd need management experience at a smaller club elsewhere before taking on such a big responsibility as Man Utd boss.

Very sad indeed. And yes, he was a class goalkeeper.

Decent away win for Liverpool , looks to me as though Sunderland will be with  Villa in the Championship next year , question is , who is to join them

Surprisingly good game tonight. Obviously Sunderland are pretty much doomed after tonight's result.

As for the Dippers, a positive result in more ways than one. Two or three more wins and they should be safe.

I see Sam Allardyce is whingeing following Sunderland's 0-1 defeat yesterday, saying that Liverpool won by a "lucky goal."
This reminded me of a response from manager Kenny Dalglish in a post-match interview some years back following a similar result and another "lucky goal"  ...."It was better than theirs"

It'd be the biggest title upset since Nottingham Forest the league. A huge achievement for a small club. However, they'd need a lot of luck with injuries/form, as they only have a very thin squad. Take Kane out & they'd struggle for goals.

In each of the last five seasons, the team with the best GD going into New Year's Eve went on to win the league.
