Indeed , on Thursday evening A Deakin was saying severe frosts but the pay off is glorious sunny days.

We ended up with a slushy covering on grass and cars that all fell between 7am and 9am, melting as it fell. It has now almost all gone.

The snowfall we had on 3rd February 2015 was considerably better, but at least this winter is better than 2013/4 now.

Just come in from spending an hour in the snow with the kids

Snowman built - check!

Snowballs thrown - check!

Sledge rides pulled - check

Paths cleared - check!

Not the best snowfall ever, but 2cm isn't to be sniffed at - and at least it's still here in the morning, unlike the snow on the night of Boxing Day 2015.

Is there anymore snow possible over the next few days?

I ve the BBC local forecast and it suggests rain later for me but my weather on the phone says i should see more snow from 3pm onwards. I don't think anyone knows what it is going to do.

Some rain overnight to dampen the daffodils. Currently drizzling a bit.

Lying snow looks unlikely now before February.

yes originally on bbc it was heavy 'disruptive' snow all night west of Scotland but this now shows as rain with mix of sleet. Must be viewed as marginal.

In line with the decision to name atlantic storms, I've decided to name each of this winter's snow events. I hereby name this first one as snow event "Ar5ehole" - it was shyte here!

i don't believe temps are due to reach above freezing til we approach midday, so I'd hope to stave off slushiness (roads excepted) until at least this afternoon... Even then, any thaw should be slow with temps only just above zero

It's snowing again here.

Looking at the radar, there's some convective activity building in the Mersey Estuary & moving eastwards.

Only very light, but not expected.

A light covering overnight but slowly thawing now.

Good to the first snow fall of the season anyway.

Hopefully not the last!

So, onto Round 2 tonight.

Trough moving in from the WSW. The output I can see suggests rain for any areas away from decent altitude (over, say, 200-300m), certainly on the western portion & southern half of the UK, with snow likely confined to the Welsh mountains, Pennines, Cumbrian Fells, etc. Further northeast you go, the more likelihood of snow falling at lower levels.

It's another bloody frustrating set-up, where many areas will likely be just a couple degrees (2m, 850's, DP) too high for snow. Only 24/48 hours or so ago, it was looking a much more snowy event, but the progress further eastwards yesterday of the front has shunted the colder air further away.

Do any of the more knowledgeable posters here think the event might confound the model output & deliver some snowy surprises?

Quite amazing the difference that a few miles make, drove 5 miles East to my Mums and they have double what Banbury has and then went to Byfield which had more again and then onto Daventry that was a winter wonderland , looked lovely

In my area of interest (CS England) I'm not expecting anything and yesterday evening I had to cancel the Advisory for snow as it was clear things were going against us here.

I'm just back from a drive on the Peak district over the Cat and fiddle. some nice small drifts which are knee deep in parts. Hard to put a gauge on depth as it is windy and blowing around. Lots of people sledging up there though. Roads are very clear even the side roads.
