GFS 12z is not without interest again with plenty of weather going on plus the odd proper polar flow into the mix.

A surprise snow event/s it not out of the question IMO.

indeed the south west approaches would get battered. Let's hope it downgrades somewhat though sadly I expect warnings will be issued tomorrow.

in the medium term GFS has some interest with the odd colder day thrown in- it's still very unsettled, though snow could crop up anywhere north of the Midlands

First look at the charts for 4 weeks.At first glance out to 240h the GEFS ensembles do have members that have HP build to north and north east though not a clear majority.Agree with your comment Neil that it maybe something of nothing.However too early I think to write off the chance of a  cold spell or two in the rest of the month.

Interesting how the Met Office and BBC never mentioned the potential colder spell on Tuesday!? - Snowy in some central parts - Less than 3 days time so not exactly FI:

The BBC are not always correct as you may know! 🙂 Prime example was back in January during that cooler/colder spell remember they forecasted days before the non-existent so called 'Coldest spell since 2013!?" ha! They were wrong! - but on the flip you in Oxfordshire had +1c with some wet snow. - Instead of the -10c.

to be fair, stating it as the coldest spell since 2013 is a bit like heralding a 2 minute light shower in the Atacama desert as the 'wettest spell in more than a century!'

the 0z still showing snow, BUT with min temps of 2c it would be a sleety affair, the very worst kind of weather in my book.

ECM manages to contrive a colder FI.  If it hadn't been such a mild autumn, er, winter, then the 240 chart would have been more exciting.  As it is its a marginal sleet fest for most.

The GEFS0z gives approximately a 35% chance of snow in the south on Tuesday. Worth watching, especially over higher ground such as the Chilterns.

It won't happen as ecm has been very poor this winter at this range but looks like snow for most away from the SW.

It could happen with the PV displaced by the now occurring SSW. Let's see how the charts look in a few days time before writing the possibility off.
