I really am a bit baffled, just watched Mr TS give the latest weekly BBC f/cast and over the w/end there is a N/S split with stupidly high temps in south and cold with wintry shwrs in the north, I live right on the dividing line so rain for most of the w/end with a Wly wind and temps of 5-7degC, however on Monday a much colder northerly airflow is set to push down the whole country for a couple of days and he said there's a chance of snow in the north...but gives temps for our region of 8-9degC...!!...how can we get 5degC with a Wly airflow from the Atlantic then 8degC in a northerly straight from Greenland...?

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Rain should clear south Monday leaving Britain with sunshine and scattered wintry showers. Thereafter, remaining fine and cold for most, but rain and hill snow may arrive across southern areas.

UK Outlook for Thursday 25 Feb 2016 to Saturday 5 Mar 2016:

Cold but sunny conditions should persist for many during Thursday, with some wintry showers in the far northeast. Thickening cloud and outbreaks of rain and hill snow will probably arrive from the west later in the day, moving slowly and erratically eastwards overnight and through Friday. The weekend then looks to be cold and unsettled overall. There will be some bright or sunny intervals but also showers or longer spells of rain in many parts, probably with some snow in the north. Winds will also strengthen at times, with a chance of gales in the south. This cold and unsettled picture looks likely to continue into March. Although milder at times in the south, temperatures will generally be below normal for the time of year with widespread overnight frosts.

UK Outlook for Sunday 6 Mar 2016 to Sunday 20 Mar 2016:

On the whole, cold and changeable conditions look to dominate through the period. Spells of wet and windy weather are likely as frontal systems push in from the Atlantic, but there should also be periods of more settled, crisp and bright conditions in-between. There will be some sleet or snow at times, either from showers in the colder outbreaks or due to frontal systems running into cold air. Temperatures will generally be below average, with widespread overnight frosts likely.

One notable Sunday was the only occasion I can recall seeing it snow continuously from dawn to dusk since the 1990s.   At the end of which there was around 2cm of slushy wet snow in places, with no more than 50% ground cover of anything at all ...  Water was dripping off trees at twice the rate snow fell on it.

March 13 was cold and wet and very very disappointing here.   There have, however, been snowy Marchs too.  So always hope, I suppose.

It's only three years since the last time March was colder than any of three preceding winter months. I think the same thing also happened back in 1995, which I recall saw a fair amount of snow in my area.

UK Outlook for Friday 26 Feb 2016 to Sunday 6 Mar 2016:

Cold but bright or sunny conditions should persist for many on Friday and Saturday, with some wintry showers, particularly in the northeast. Though there is a risk that strong winds and outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow, may develop in the west or southwest for a time. The remainder of the weekend and early next week then looks to remain cold with bright or sunny intervals but also some wintry showers, these most prevalent in the east. A cold and predominantly unsettled picture then looks likely through the first week of March, with a risk of some sleet or snow at times. Although less cold at times in the south, temperatures will generally be below normal with widespread overnight frosts. Frosts locally severe in the north.

UK Outlook for Monday 7 Mar 2016 to Monday 21 Mar 2016:

On the whole, cold and changeable conditions look to dominate through the period. Spells of wet and windy weather are likely as frontal systems push in from the Atlantic, but there should also be periods of more settled, crisp and bright conditions in-between. There will be some sleet or snow at times, either from showers in the colder outbreaks or due to frontal systems running into cold air. Temperatures will generally be below average, with overnight frosts fairly common.

I must have imagined the bit where he said (at 40:20) "where you have snow cover and there could be quite a lot of it across the north of Scotland..." in the context of lows of -10ºC or -11ºC midweek
